Hello!
This question is for the non English teachers, if any.
I did the visa run twice in Korea:
- in 1997 I went to China for a student visa
- in 2003 I went to Japan for a working visa (E-7 Specially Designated Activities)
Since Korean immigration regulations keep changing constantly, I am wondering if it is still possible to do the visa run again. I quit my job last year (2003's E-7) and recently got a job in a similar position.
I am asking this because a friend of mine (we are both South Americans) got a job as a Spanish teacher and Immigration made him go back to his home country just to pick up his visa at the local Korean Embassy, that is insane. No visa run for him. Yet I still read posts of people talking about the visa run to Japan or China, mostly English teachers.
Anyone care to share their experiences?
Thanks!!!! |

I know a French guy in Seoul who's on an E2 (teaching French). He got it in Japan. That's year old (or maybe a little bit more) so not sure if anythings happened in that time. I think that most of the non-teachers that I know got their visas before coming. |

Hmmm your situation is a bit unique so the best answer will be what you get from immigration. I can provide an anecdote that may or may not prove useful, given your particular circumstances...
I was on the E-7 from 2005 to 2009. At that point I needed to switch to an E-2. I had two "black marks" on my immigration record and there was a policy at the time that E-2 visa applicants with such a record, alongside first-time applicants, were required to go through a consular interview in their home countries.
In 2011 I switched back to an E-7. There was no mention of having to do a consular interview. It was my understanding at the time that the consular interview was limited to E-2 applicants.
I realize this is rather dated information, take from it what you will. |
