If anyone here watches the History Channel in korea then i'm sure your hoping along with me that they cancel this show. Its on everytime i switch the channel. Its so good damn boring. I have no idea how it got so popular or what it has to do with history to be on the History channel.
His character is a southern redneck so what exactly were they expecting him to say. |

People seem to forget that the first amendment only protects us from government censorship, and doesn't shield us from the consequences of our actions. Let's remember that it was Ronald Reagan (of all people) who promoted the idea of personal responsibility. I guess it only applies to the poor and disadvantaged.

The History Channel hasn't been about history in years. It used to be 24/7 Hitler programming and then they moved onto shows like Pawn Stars and some show about Alien's. I didn't know Duck Dynasty was on the History Channel in Korea though, it's on AE I believe in the US. |

People forget this?
The thing I find funny/sad about this whole "drama" is that it's sad that an old redneck duck hunters opinion carries this much weight and that people are surprised that an old redneck duck hunter would have this opinion in the first place. |

Let the dude say what he wants to say. No reason to fire him. If people give unsolicited offensive statements on the air as part of their role on TV, then maybe. But if someone gives an honest answer to a question, then we should have the morals to let their opinion stand and not fire them for it.
I know what A&E did was within their rights, but I don't think it was the right thing to do.
That being said, they probably suspended him as part of a publicity stunt. The ratings for the first post-suspension episode are going to be huge. I think the Robertsons and A&E are laughing at us on the way to the bank. |

What NYC_Gal 2.0 pointed out is true, and the Republican politicians that are trying to make hay out of it know it is true, but we have already been through so many similar incidents that this was all pretty predictable. I'm afraid we are in for another round of incredibly ignorant comments about freedoms of speech and religion.
Still, I was wondering how A&E should have handled it. But now that you mention it, Steelrails, I think you've got it right. Yep, laughing all the way to the bank. |

The gay comments were one thing, and if he would have stuck with "I'm a conservative Christian and think that homosexuality is wrong according to the Bible," he probably would have been OK, but joking about it, at a time when world opinion is putting the screws to Putin due to Russia's anti-gay stance and gays are being persecuted in Africa, wasn't very smart.
But his comments regarding segregation were just plain dumb. Yes, all those people were marching in the streets for their civil rights because they were happy as clams. And yes, during segregation they would be sure to air their gripes to their white co-worker, who for all they knew, was a plant. Yes, that's why blacks were leaving the South as fast as they could. He's re-writing history while on the History channel.
He more than earned his suspension.
Either way, I can't imagine ever watching their show. Brooklyn beard farmers at lest play interesting music. |

It's boring as hell- I watched it with my teen age son, who loves it. After the first boring episode, he said, "ok, that was not a good one", so I watched another, same thing! He begged me to watch one more, so I did. Same thing. Ah, the things a father will put up for his son. |

Counter point: he has whored himself out to a television network for some easy cash, and now he's experiencing the logical consequences of the resulting power dynamic. If one wishes to cash in on being a public figure, one must accept the limitations that come along with the role. That is a lesson from which the fame-obsessed general populace can benefit.
That said, I cannot say I care if he's suspended or not. I've never seen the show, nor will I. |

I'd never heard of the show before this, and I'm not particularly interested in watching it, but I agree with you. You want the big bucks from being on TV? Watch what you say, because people are listening. |

Never watched the show, but on the news today they said that the man already has enough money and so many other networks would give him a show anyway. They're making millions of dollars off of Tshirts and bumper stickers, he probably doesn't really care if he was 'suspended'.
Here's Jennifer Lawrence talking about her butt plug collection. Enjoy.

What norms has the guy violated? He was asked his opinion on a subject that is certainly a controversial one.
Like I said, its one thing if he starts ranting, but when someone gives their honest opinion on a subject in response to an interview question, especially one in which there is something like a 52-48 split in opinion on, is it really the right thing to do to suspend the guy because he gives an answer you don't like?
Can't we be grown up enough to listen to someone's opinion without demanding they be fired? Rant and rave at the guy and mock him on The Daily Show or tear him to shreds in an op-ed, fine. But workplace consequences? Really?
Better the guy tells me his honest opinion than sits there and lies. I guess people wanted an echo chamber rather than for him to actually give an answer. |

Here's a bit from an interview he gave back in July.
He may be the leader of the "Duck Dynasty" pack, but Phil Robertson is hinting that he doesn't have much time left on the A&E reality series.
In an interview with Parade magazine, the reality star admitted that he and "Duck Dynasty" aren't in it for the long haul.
When asked how much longer he would be involved with the show, Robertson, "Not long," noting that he thought the show itself would be fine. "I think it'll go on without me." |
