I have bad knees but still enjoy getting out in the snow/mountains. My wife is from a tropical climate and has never been snow skiing. Which resort(s) would be good for us to do a day trip?

I'm thinking an early bus on a Sunday morning (she works Saturdays till around 5:30 pm) to one of the resorts, a day of sledding/tubing, and perhaps getting her to try skiing on the bunny slopes. Then dinner at the resort, and a night bus back to Seoul.

We don't have a car here so I am wondering which resort would be easiest for us to get to? Someone said that some of the resorts run shuttle buses from various places in Seoul. Others have said that some of the public buses will get you pretty close to some of the resorts.

Any advice? We don't really care which resort we go to; convenience in getting there is our priority... Thanks...

Vivaldi Park is close, to Seoul and even has free shuttle buses from almost everywhere in Seoul. It takes about an hour and a half to get there.

Don't know about going on a Sunday though. Could be a madhouse. I recommend taking the very first bus if you do that as tons of people seem to wait for the afternoon ski session.

Ill be bonfire pisser since no one else has.

If you have a bad knee, I really wouldn't recommend going skiing at all.

For a start, Korean general etiquette seems to be exacerbated on the ski runs. This generally means people being smashed into left right and center loike CERN on snow. Also, because a lot of people cant ski for shit (worldwide phenomenon - not blaming that on the Koreans), they snowplow everywhere making the runs unskiable by afternoon. On top of that, the snow quality isn't always good, so it gets very icy.

Id say you're asking for more injuries.

Mind you, I specifically mean 'skiing' - not visiting the resorts. They can be quite pleasant just to sit about in and ride the gondolas etc.

Skiing / snowboarding is okay here if you're not a beginner.

As others have said, there are a ton of beginners and the easy hills get insanely busy on weekends. There are also way more snowboarders than skiers here, so the bunny hills are just a mess of people. You'll see at least one or two collisions every time you take the lift or go down a run.

However, even during peak hours, moderately difficult hills are decent and the expert hills are almost always deserted.

I find night skiing to be the best time. Day time is insane, and the twilight skiing is also really packed because the lift tickets are super cheap.

If you're a beginner or going with beginners, aim for the earliest time in the morning or night skiing.

Pretty much all of the major hills have free shuttles from Seoul. Vivaldi doesn't have the best skiing, but the resort has a ton of stuff to do.

Go to Sajo in Suanbo. It's the smallest, shittiest ski hill in the country. One of the owners ran away with all the left over money last year, so some of the local vendors are running it this year. Suanbo's a nice, little town with some hotspas and OK pheasant restaurants. If you're not concerned about quality of skiing, then it's a nice place to go since it will be much less crowded than just about anywhere else on the weekend.
