No, of course other things will get brought up. Fine.

But the default setting of little bitches like you is to immediately go on the "Oh that happens everywhere! Oh my God why are we even talking about this? It happens everywhere!!!1" defense.

Yup, it's one of the apologist defaults: the SAME-SAME argument.

"This happens everywhere." Right.

Maybe, but not exactly in the same way, or with the same frequency!

Example:
If in one country it's an accepted industry-wide practice and the default behavior, and in another country it's a set of random, scandalous incidents, then it is NOT the same thing!

It'd be like an American pointing to one random murder in Korea and trying to claim, "See, murder happens everywhere! SAME SAME! What's the big deal?"

Are we really arguing about the sex lives of young celebrities and whether they are sordid or not? We're not exactly talking about Dame Maggie Smith here.

I used to record bands. One time this guy (a bass player of course) offered his sister to me as payment. True story. Shocked

Not sure what the point is, but the entertainment industry isn't a "normal" industry.

What if you just love Korean prostitution?

On a side note, I wonder if Rosie O'Donnell and Kathy Bates slept their way to the top?

I was using "sock" as a synonym for "troll" or "flame-baiter," though I do realize that they all connote different things -- a sock is more often a second account one uses in order to act as a troll without tarnishing one's reputation (a "sock puppet," and then later, simply a "sock").

I was expressing the idea that it was very clear to me (i.e. "transparent") that cmxc was trying to stir up strong reactions simply for the purpose of stirring up strong reactions ("trolling"). I wanted to pretend to be clever, so I wanted a less direct assertion, so I went with "the colors of socks I have seen."

It amused me at the time, and I'll stand by it.

Elaborate enough? Laughing

When an analogy takes that much explanation, is it really worth standing by?

The analogy didn't require that much explanation -- the extended explanation was itself meta-sarcasm, and this takes it to the third Yomi layer, which brings it back to the first level of rock-paper-scissors...and I'm always rock....

Koreans are generally accepting of this, but when a Korean female dates a foreign person, she is often considered a race-traitor, and you see crazy documentaries like:
MBC: The Shocking Truth About Relationships With Foreigners
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B09FXOZVw4g

Have sex for money with Koreans for fame and glory - OK!
Have sex with with a foreign person for love, language improvement, or simple curiosity - not OK! You are a race traitor!

'Virtually every'? Korea has only 30 female celebrities??

Sure there's 9 in Girl's Generation alone.

Man, wish I was rich enough to book Girl's Generation for a night Wink

On your pitiful ESL salary- no chance. And it's not like every female celebrity in Korea is for sale. Just some. Why would you want to waste money on prostitution anyways? There are much better ways to spend one's money.

I guess sleeping with some old dude would be a doubly odious for Rosie considering she is gay.

I have no idea if she did but she's always had the funny big girl thing going on so her career traded less on her being sexually attractive.

For me the difference would be that if you have a situation where some women use sleeping with old powerful men as a quick way to the top of the industry instead of putting in hard work compared to a situation where sleeping with these men is the default method to the top and is almost mandatory if you want to make it.

Why is this surprising? Women's rights are nil there. There's a reason they have a negative birthrate....they're treated like crap and are starting to use men the way they have used them for millenia.

This of course explains the skyrocketing birthrates in Scandinavia, Western Europe and so on, and the plummeting birth rate in those bastions of feminism- Sub-saharan Africa and the Middle East.

Sounds like as good a plan as any.

Cmon guys, looks at the big names in the music industry. Do you think they got there because of their talent? It's dilettantes, daddy's money, and slutery. Smile
