I'm hoping to finally get a difinitive answer to this, as no one in my building seems to know. Of course, it's possible that how utilities are structured may be different from one officetel to another.

In my building it seems that we all pay a common fee for electricity(for elevators,hallway lights, etc), but also pay for exactly what we use. This is cool with me as I can have some control over my utility bill each month.
As for heat, I'm not sure how it works. I haven't turned my heat on this year at all, which I assumed would save me a bundle, but my bill is only slightly lower than all the neighbours I've asked. (We get one bill that covers heat, water, hot water and electricity, plus loads of other indiscernible charges.

I guess the theory is that the total heat used by each floor is equally divided by the tenants, unlike electricity. Is this a common practice? I would like to turn the heat on, but am afraid my utility bill, which is already a bit over 200k/mth, will skyrocket. From what I understand, the bill can top out as high as 300k.

If the theory holds true then I had might as well crank the heat as my contribution should only be a drop in the bucket. I'm lucky as I have two small rooms and the one with the window usually hovers around 10-15 degrees C. While the other stays between 18-20C. Would be nice to use both rooms though.

How does it work in other officetels?

Mine is all separate. I pay for what I use. There is an additional montly fee that covers the common areas.

If you have a pic of your bill, I can probably tell you.

If it's an older building, you're one big happy community. Communal sharing of all expenses and they will be high because all the others will have the heat cranked to 28 or 30 degrees. Althewhile, you're at 20 degrees paying for overheated @$$e$.

A newer building, you pay your own. End of story.

Ask the people in the 관리실. They really need to know this. Every officetel is different. Some do split shared/individual as in your case for electricity. Some do totally shared.
