I'm being offered a contract with an MOE that begins on Feb 25, 2014, which is three days before my current contract ends on Feb 28. There are no classes or any work to be done at my current job during that 3-day period (technically it's a vacation week) but this is apparently a big big big problem on paper because Korea. The MOE is also unable to start the contract on March 1, for reasons nobody seems to know.
I'm told I'll need to terminate my current contract a few days early, which could very well mean forfeiting severance and travel allowance (3mil won total).
Has anyone heard of this? Any ways to handle it? |

Start on March 2 (the day after the holiday).

Yes, that would be the clear, obvious solution.
The MOE is unable/unwilling to change the staring date, for the sake of consistency. |

If that job is a lot better than your current one, then just bite the bullet. You will be better off in the long run. If you have a good relationship with the school maybe they will still give you severance unless they are petty. |

Have you talked to your current school and see if they would be willing to shorten the contract and still give you your bonus and flight money?
Do you have any vacation or sick days available to use for those 3 days?
My question is why did you put yourself in this position before working out the details first? |
