The latest fad in English education for Koreans is going to Kenya. Just ran into one of my middle school students (who's pretty good at English already) and she just told me she's going to Africa (Kenya) for four years to study English. I think she might be with her sister for part of that time, but away from her parents.

I asked why not Canada or the USA. She said, expensive. So, the Phillipines are losing ground too? Anyways, it seemed strange to me. I hope she stays safe.

The Koreans are outsourcing to Africa now. It's probably a lot cheaper than the Phillipines. But, gone for four years away from her family? Wow! That's some odd happenings.

I always wonder who chooses things like this? The mother? Father? I think usually it's the mother, and often she goes with the kids, often with the father having little say in the matter. And what often happens after a few years, the mother asks for a divorce. Personally, I'd never agree to sending my family overseas while I stay behind to work.

Is it really a fad if one person you know is going to Africa to study?

Might be a missionary angle to it. I've met young Koreans who have spent time in Kenya through church groups.

My thoughts exactly. It reminds me of the time I told a Korean that I prefer skiing to snowboarding, and she said "oh, so Canadians don't like snowboarding." Laughing Rolling Eyes

Yep, the Kenyans should definitely take steps to protect themselves.

Yeah, I just never heard of it before. Seemed so odd to me. Plus, looking Chinese in Africa. You hear they don't like Chinese so much there. So, I hope she can stay safe. Plus crime and such.
