Hi,
I have no idea where to begin. Single male, over 50 yrs, with a Master's Degree and 10 years of experience teaching at mostly the elementary level all in the US.
I think I would prefer teaching adults now, but I have experience in teaching elementary, which actually doesn't seem to require all of the take home paperwork and grading that the lower levels require.
Should I hold out for a university position?
I just have no idea where to begin, so many job postings, and recruiters. I can't decide between Korea and Saudi. I need the money, but I don't want to be in a nightmare of unmotivated students etc..
How much can you make per month? and it's not all about the money, but I have to have some job satisfaction etc... social life ( Seoul?? only?)
THANKS! for any help. |

It's just a guess, but I think your age might work against you when trying to find jobs teaching elementary. Plus, all your experience being a real teacher may set you up for added frustrations when working within Korea's education system.
Your best bet may be trying to get a uni position. |

Licensed as a teacher in the US and a master's degree... why are you looking for entry level EFL jobs in Korea at $1800/month?
There is neither money nor job satisfaction to be had.
Look for proper teaching jobs at internationally accredited schools (globally).
Remuneration packages are double what you will earn in EFL and the benefits are also substantial.
http://www.searchassociates.com
http://www.tes.co.uk/jobs (pick a corner of the globe to work in)
http://www.ibo.org (apply to individual schools and not the IBO).
there are others as well. Google is your friend.

+1 Ttompatz
But if you still really want to head to Korea, yes you should hold out for University positions. Understand that they prefer face-to-face interviews, and may not pay airfare for you to start. Hope you have a connection. |
