| Wow look at the judgementalism |
Yes, I am judging him. As someone from the lowest class of society (single-parent household where mother relied solely on welfare for income), and borrowed the full amount to attend university, who isn't exceptionally good-looking, I managed to not only pay off all my debts within 6 years, but also amass a huge pile of money and not have to work for a hagwon ever again. And if I can do it, a person will all the disadvantages one can have, then ANYBODY can! ANYBODY!! Anybody with the slightest bit of self-discipline can do it. Can you FEEL my JUDGEMENT!

...so is Oprah Winfrey, Leonardo DiCaprio, Al Pacino, Winona Ryder, Sheryl Crowe, the President of the republic of Korea...do tell me when to stop.
You're sounding positively Victorian. |
Your leaving out the part about how he WANTED to get married. So this isn't a question of wanting to marry or not, but having WAITED WAY TOO LONG to get to it.

There are boatloads of people been here ten, 15 and 20 years
I know someone whos been here since 1981 and has no money- paying his kids school fees leaves nothing but enough to survive month to month... |
Nice try but that is a single sentence, not two separate sentences. The word "yet" is a conjunction word that links a dependent clause to a independent clause. And yes I am suggesting he sucks with money.

There are millions of unemployed people- a rapidly growing number- and youths in the west and around the world who would probably love to work atr Avalon or even just have a job...

And I would classify someone who depends on Avalon for a living as a loser and I'm not going to apologize for that.

You've never been seriously stuck with some problem of bureaucracy? Count yourself very lucky. |
You must be kidding. I've lost a little under $10,000 to bureaucracy, including tax avoidance. I've been dragged through the wringer in immigration for years. But even with all those losses I still came out ahead. Now why can't he do that.

Point is: people's personal circumstances are unique and you don't know even 1% of the story just by a glance at an anonymous online posting. |
So all internet forums everywhere should just close up shop? That's a little immature to me.

Its the 21st century and nobody has to live their life to some antiquated formula dictated to them by society. |
Seems someone is making some of those assumptions they don't like others making.

The sort of unimaginative people who follow your very unoriginal idea usually don't travel the world or go to places like Korea in the first place. |
Really? You're trying to say that working in a hagwon in Korea is somehow a creative expression of one's uniqueness, a symbol of their modernity and cosmopolitan lifestyle? That's got to be the biggest joke I've heard. There's got to be a million places that are more culturally enriching than Korea. It's not even a contest between Seoul and Tokyo. If someone was truly traveling abroad to enrich themselves, Seoul would be the LAST place to pick. People come here because it's a safe, easy way to make money. That's it. Nothing soul-enriching about it. Nothing imaginative at all. But if that helps you sleep at night. |
