Just curious if anyone knows if there are any "building standards" that need to be met by karaoke businesses? What I mean is, do they have to install soundproof walls etc to meet a certain level of decibel criteria in order to be "passed" or do they just simply go unchecked and untested?

Why I'm asking this is because I see a lot of one rooms that situated right above karaoke businesses (ie. one room's on 3rd floor and karaoke business on 2nd floor etc). I'm thinking that MAYBE illogical thinking here might actually hold true that these one room's could be the quietest if those karaoke businesses in fact have to meet a building standard and are covered in soundproof materials and walls? Is it possible that theory might actually be true?

Anyone happen to live in a one room next to or above a karaoke business that can attest to this?

It's probably not true and they're probably really noisy at night when ppl are singing drunk at 2am, but the thought occurred to me as an intriguing POSSIBILITY. The idea that maybe the LEAST expected place you'd think to be quiet is in fact the most quiet place. Hmmmm.

Building Standards? How many bills can fit in a white envelope?

Could be karaoke addicts wanting to be close to the red hot action. Real problem. True story.

I asked around and it all those rooms are taken, full, non available. I think I'm onto something here. It's probably the best kept secret in korea....the quietest houses are probably the ones next to/above karaoke places.

I live above one, well 4 floors above one in the basement. Technically its a room salon, but same-same in my book.

Can't hear it at all. Sometimes drink outside the building on the ground floor and can't hear it either.

However, I can hear the damn LG store thats nearly 2 blocks behind my building from time to time.

I think the places that you hear when you are walking around at night WANT you to hear them, hence the noise.
