Except I didn't. I questioned it (which is the opposite). I said the article seems strange because it has Korea as #2 in the world for the amount of prostitutes per capita rather than #1.
The only thing I will accept as "gospel truth" is the prediction you will pop into every thread I make with an inane asinine comment pettily nitpicking something inconsequential in the boringest way possible.
There are few absolutes in life, but one can safely assume you, PatrickGHBusan, thegadfly, and creeper1 will be trolling Dave's for many years to come. |
Actually you didn't question the article. There were 10 countries listed and you only questioned the placing of one. Therefore it is a reasonable assumption that you saw nothing wrong with the placing of the others (excepting maybe the first placed one). Hence my remark about accepting it as gospel.
And your remark about Korea had nothing to back it up...which comes perilously close to trolling.
Regardless the article does not source where the figures came from nor provide links to said data. Therefore until such data is provided one should not take any of those figures seriously. |

| I'm surprised Germany's rate is nearly half of South Korea's. The last time I was there it wasn't noticeable. But that was back when they were still using the deutschmark. I guess the formation of the European Union caused lax border controls, which may have caused trafficking to skyrocket. |

Any male..who has traveled the world...and partakes in the....services....would rate korea high on the list....
barber shops, buy me drinkee bars, coffee shop gals, love hotels, massage places, sports massages, red light districts, internet ads for sex, etc...yeah...korea is high on the list with Thailand, The PI, etc.
Even by koreans own government, prostitution account for a high percentage of the GNP! |

| Rest easy. The article says that only 20% of the prostitutes are from Venezuela, so that means South Korea has the most locals in the biz. |

I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock in a lot of these studies.
However,
That South Korea is up there shouldn't really be surprising. If it is, or you choose to deny the prevalence of whoring in comparison to other countries, I'd say you need to open your eyes a bit. I've even known Koreans (even females) to openly admit that whoring is way out of control in their country and that they export it abroad. Well yeah but then again Korea is hardly alone in this regard.
What gets me is this: Korea for the most part is now a higher income country. Countries like Venezuela and Thailand have large populations that live in impoverished conditions. Most of the women do it because there is little other choice in order to make money and the men (western and asian alike) from higher income countries that exploit this I have no respect for.
In Korea it is to get money to buy materialistic unneeded 명품. Or it is to pay back credit card debt from buying unneeded useless crap or to get plastic surgery. Yeah yeah there are still poor Koreans, but it's not anything like Venezuela or Thailand where many people still live without any infrastructure. That is the embarrassing part. In the 80s yeah Korea was dirt poor. Now it's different yet the whoring industry remains robust. |

not quite. it's mainly because korean culture doesn't allow for open communication in relationships. korean men and women when it comes to relationships (and to a large degree, life in general) are basically like overgrown children and they play the games that many of us played when we were in middle school such as the "i will tell you one thing but expect you to do another" game.
and if you've ever spoken to koreans about sex in general or been with a korean and experienced it firsthand, let's say that more often than not the "dead fish" syndrome happens with the women and from my chats with my foreign female friends the "minute man" syndrome happens with the men.
koreans will tell you that it is incredibly difficult for them to speak directly to each other so since they can't communicate well and talk openly about their feelings and sexual desires then that's where prostitutes come in. the men feel that since it's a one-time thing they can speak openly with the worker and do what they would want to but can't with their wives/girlfriends.
so that's why prostitution is so huge here. it doesn't happen BECAUSE there is a large population of women who want money. the monetary aspect is just a benefit to those who want to work the industry because the demand is so high culturally. |

| I think the gender imbalance has something to do with it. Not every man can find a wife. |

so you are saying the reason that a high number of women are doing it is not because there is a large population of women who want money? but the women who are doing it are doing it because there is a high demand and the monetary aspect is just a benefit of doing it?
Okay. Let's take out the monetary benefit. Do you think the women would be doing it if, oh let's say, they weren't being paid to do it?
I believe the reason that a large population of the women are doing it is 96.693 percent based solely upon the money. just my opinion. |

no, i'm saying they are doing it because it's culturally in demand. even if they were getting paid minimum wage they would still do it. of course they are doing it "for the money" because they need to make a living, but i was referring to why prostitution is so prevalent here, and it's not because there are tons of women who eagerly want to put their bodies up for sale to nasty adjosshis. it's because of the reasons i previously listed. |

I want to know the the estimated number of Korean woman that prostitute themselves on a regular basis. That's actually take money on a daily basis for spreading her legs, not "associated with", or did it one time. And I mean actual ethnic Koreans from Korea. Not some Thai girl that was imported to Korea and now counted as a woman residing in Korea.
These numbers are there just to shock us. But it is all too broad. Just like how one article states that 21% of teens who've had sex. But out of 100 teens, how many have had sex. That 21% is there to shock us and a lot of us will start thinking it's 21% of all teen girls have prostituted herself on a regular basis, but that isn't the reality. |

ok. I think I got your point. It could be because it is somewhat culturally accepted. |

Sometime ago I was chatting with someone from MiddleEast. He said he was surprised by the number of hookers out during the daytime. What hookers? I asked. He pointed: there! There were some office ladies in their Chanel suits having smokes at a building facade....
By that logic Italy ought to be numero uno, no? |

| However, I can say that of the 20+ countries I've been to, Korea is the only place where I was eating a meal in a restaurant, and the waitress told me that the owner adjuma wanted to give me a handjob in the backroom for cash. |
