One rooms are generally in a multi-floor/multi-room building (2 or more floors or if it's just a 1 floor one room, there are usually rows of rooms side by side). Does anyone know what a room for rent that is a semi-detached house or room that has no adjacent rooms above and below and to the sides called?

I asked a lady in town and she said something like, "Il bang", which I think means 1 room, but not as in "one room", but as a room that is almost like a house in of itself but not quite big like one.

I'd like to know if there is a korean word for this sort of room for rent so that it is easier to ask rather than having to explain myself for 5 minutes in broken korean and easy english with body actions to describe it lol.

Perhaps you could describe it as a 단독 주택? That's a whole house, though, not merely a single room.

i've heard it called "en-suite," but that was a few years ago at a hostel i was at in hyehwa -- not sure if that's the term for an actual residence or if it's just the term for temporary boarding...

a shack in the woods?
You're basically asking for a completely detached square box with a bathroom in it. If you don't want rooms above, below or beside that's fully detached.

You could ask for a rooftop room. But those are usually for poorer people, they don't have any form of heating.

Is there a room below that meets the criteria? Thanks for sharing.

I doubt such situations are common in large cities but elsewhere a "small jutaek" might convey something like you're looking for. A little outbuilding, probably older construction (but make sure it has modern plumbing), might even have a bit of a courtyard. Lots of (poorer) Koreans live in situations like this & you could too. Fair bit costlier than a standard one-room though.
