"The bill is applied to only public offices."
So does this mean hagwons get the benefit? |
From what I understand (I work in a "public office") the law has been applied first to public office and will be applies to private companies (hagwons) in the future. |

| My school is reducing the number of vacation days this year by two. The reasoning behind this is that we have more holidays this year than normal. We were also told that this is the norm across Korea (public schools included). Any truth to this? My contract says I get 10 days, this would give me 8. Anything I can do? |
The only way this change can be legally done is if the owners present an ammendment to the contract and you both agree to it and sign it. Or they just rewrite the contract with a change and state in its points that the new contract is replacing the old one, then you both agree and sign it.
If the contract remains unchanged then they can't take away your vacation days.

As for the Korean bill changing holidays. I am disappointed that they would do that. One of the things I liked about Korea was that they did not do holidays like the west.
It was a breath of fresh air and good thinking on the part of the Koreans. |

| Let's just say they bring a new contract with the new vacation scheduling. If I refuse to sign it, could they just decide to fire me? |

Technically no they can't because the old contract is still in force. BUT why ruin your employment over 2 vacation days? Sometimes you have to bend a little not just make the Koreans do the bending.
If you have other questions I would suggest you ask an attorney as this is about as far as I can go in explaining contracts. |
