| The list is fairly accurate, but what we're really saying is you gender, race, and accent's similarity to Hollywood films are the prime criteria you are judged on in country that is woefully superficial, especially when hired from the other side of the world based on nothing but a telephone call. |

No, The Urban Myth, I don't know every single Korean who has ever hired a Westerner in the history of EFL. However, I know enough that I can see patterns and draw a conclusion. One doesn't even need that, however. Just check out job boards. Never once have I seen an ad that said Irish male ONLY- don't even bother applying if you female or from the United States.
Look at this Avalon (a huge company) ad on Dave's:

The most important thing is gender. Unless you are female, you don't qualify.

OP, let me suggest something. As we all know, qualifications are not as important as appearance here. But they gobble up flattery like nobody's business. I suggest you open a new email account and start applying afresh. Choose an email adress that reads something like "[email protected]" Then in your cover letter talk about how you feel an emotional attachment to Korea due to the many similarities between the Irish and Koreans. ('Koreans are the Irish of Asia' bullshit.) Maybe mention how you are working on a Korean travel guide for Irish vistors to this beknighted peninsula. (Don't worry about Koreans thinking you're having them on - they don't have bullshit detectors here.)
Honestly, open up a new email account and take the route I suggested. Also, you can post your resume on this site and on worknplay. Maybe also mention that you spent five years living and attending school somewhere in North America. How the hell are they going to check? (We need to see your transcripts from your elementary school?)
In short, be creative with your story.

The Koreans would prefer to be known as the Italians of Asia wouldn't they. I'm not sure they'd see being compared to the Irish as much of a compliment. |
