|
|
I am considering travelling to Busan to begin job hunting. I am just wondering is it possible to rent out accommodation for a month or would it have to be a longer lease?
And have ye guys any rough estimate as to how much money you would want for a months stay. I know it's an impossible question but any rough estimate would be appreciated.
Thank you for any feedback. |

I don't know about 1-month apartment rentals but I'd say it's extremely unlikely. After you've faffed around with deposits it's not worth anyone's time for a month.
Your best bet is getting in a motel for a few weeks. If you're lucky you can find a decent one for about 30,000 per night, and I bet they'd take 5-600,000 for the month, especially during the winter, and especially especially if you pay up front. Be careful though, because lunar new year is coming up and around that time the motels will be fighting people off with sticks.
You do right trying to get a job in person though. Get yourself on the local Facebook groups and hit the streets with your resume and you'll almost certainly get something within a month.
Good luck! |

Thank you for the reply Blanca I really appreciate your help. I have spoken to a few people on couchsurfing and they said i could crash at their place for a few days which would be excellent for the first few days but obviously I wouldn't want to overstay my welcome.
I will definitely look into the motel Idea. |

You could stay in a goshiwon. They are small (read: tiny), but they are fully furnished (including internet) and you would have no problem renting one for a month. I stayed in one for 3 months that cost 600,000/month. I'm sure you could find one for less.
They aren't all that comfortable, but it is a solid option for a temporary residence. |

If you look on KoreaBridge.com and post that you are looking for an apartment for a month you could probably find something. |

Thanks Face32 and Drydell.
So far I have found one hostel which has excellent reviews and good prices which is definitely an option for one week. It's called Indy House and is very close to Haeundae beach. It has excellent reviews on trip advisor and it has easy to follow directions on how to reach it from the airport. It is also located beside the Haeundae market.
I have been chatting to a guy on couch surfing and he has offered to put me up for a few days when I first arrive which is incredibly generous of him, but I really don't want to overstay my welcome and want to have other things planned.
I have been looking into renting a Goshiwon. This seems like a good option as the prices are pretty cheap and they are apparently very common, but my problem would be actually finding one and then renting it with the language barrier
I am still getting to know Busan and trying to learn about the different districts, but the place is fecking massive. |

600,000 /month seems like a lot for a goshiwon. I'd aim for closer to 300,000/month.
I think that if you set up job interviews in advance, you could arrange it so that you could visit schools over a 2 week period. You could stay at youth hostels or yokwon (usually a single 2x2m room at a place like a youth hostel). That would give you mobility if you want to check out a few particular areas of the city. |

Cheers Troglodyte. That's kind of the plan so far. It's just a bit stressful knowing that I can't really sort out accommodation from this side. I will probably be arriving in at around 5/6am and I can never sleep on planes so when I arrive I would just love to crash.
I have checked out hotels which provide 24 hour check in and there only seems to be 2 |

Temporary accomodation in Korea is not great.
There's plenty of it but its too expensive for what it is and its hard to find that happy medium between space, location and price.
Goshitels are about 2m square. You just about have room to stand up but nothing much more, and you'll be sharing a kitchen with all and sundry. No thanks.
Hostels are ok if you're 20 and don't mind a different complete stranger sharing your space every night. For me no thanks.
A lot of sublets are likewise small and pricey.
Best would be to try strike a deal with a motel owner. In the past I've managed to get a fairly nice room for 400, 000 p.m. Many don't do deals though and want you to stay on a night-by night basis of course.
Crazy thing is a decent apartment is usually cheaper and way better than all of the above but its difficult to get a contract for one under a year. |
