As a former uni guy (six years at the same uni) in Korea, I must say I was often amused by a lot of hagwon guys.
Every time I met one in a bar, I immediately pictured a piece of white meat with two eyes, wearing a green wig, red nose and clown outfit at work every day.
A lot of these folks, seemed to have zero ambition, and were broke at the end of each month.

As a soon to be former univ teacher, I too laughed at my colleagues who would go around calling themselves (and having their students call them) "professor" talk about egomaniacs. I knew better and would tell them never to call me that as I didn't have a PhD, tenure or been published.
I kind of felt sorry for the hogwon teachers as they worked far harder than I did for less money and got screwed over more often. the only difference between us is I spent an extra couple of years playing the paper chase in grad school |

| Yes, it's a sad characteristic of the human condition to be continuously comparing ourselves and trying to convince ourselves we have more worth than our fellow man. And it usually is men who do this. In any field/walk of life. The root is deep down insecurity I suppose. |

May I ask where you got your PHD mister professor? You don't have one? Well, I must say "I'm amused" at your efforts at pulling the status thing over hogwan teachers. People with an Hons. degree, or mere Masters, fancying themselvers professors are the biggest joke in the ESL community here. "Everytime I met one in a bar" and he referred to himself as a professor I immediately lost all interest in talking to him. If he's that detached from reality, and so obsessed with his non-existent and imaginary status, then he's the clown - not the hogwon teacher. The haggie teacher knows he'a an English teacher. I'd share a beer with him any day over some shallow, deluded character such as yourself.

| I sold my bike to a Professor at Hongdae. He was cool though and did the air quotes when he told me he was a Professor. |

| I have been in Korea a while. I have had many chances to work at unis despite just having a BA. The money was always crap. Then when a masters degree became a requirement I considered taking the time, money and effort to go that route. But the end never justified the output. Now that uni jobs are mostly crap and harder to find, I am glad I didn't bother to get a masters. |

Couple of questions for you: What were you considering getting a masters in? Do you have plans to continue a career in esl/efl? |

In the past, uni jobs were much, much, much easier to get. I agree. |

| Yeah I have a thought. You're a Troll. Somehow I get the feeling that people go for Uni jobs overseas when they aren't able to get one in their respective country, because well............they're just not that competitive for some reason. |

when i hear 'professor' i think of university teacher.
I haven't felt that heir of superiority when it comes up,, but maybe its cause they usually ugly and scrawny/fat as fuk in comparison.
A clown is a clown no matter who he's dancing in front of. |
