Is it possible to study (online MA degree) while working as a teacher in Korea?
I start a master's degree course in English in October at the Open University (UK). It's an online course and requires roughly around 18 hours a week. I would also like to combine that with teaching English, with the idea that once I've finished I will have teaching experience and an MA.
I understand it will be tough doing both, but I just want to make sure it's not impossible.
Is it completely crazy to attempt both?
Is anybody currently studying / teaching?
Any advice anybody can give me would be extremely helpful
Thank you |

An online course in English? How difficult could it be, really? |

I know it is possible because I did it. I also know many people who did it. I am doing my doctorate now. I make a lot more money and have a better job.

If you do it from an established university with a good reputation, you will be fine with whatever you choose. |

An MA TESOL is a lot of work. It is even more so if you do it by distance. |

I don't think I'm qualified to work at a university, I only have a BA. Do you think it is possible while working at a private institution? |

I'm doing it from UK too. 2/3 finished. I was given a similar figure of 15-20 hrs a week. For me it was a gross over estimation. I do about 2-3.
(Assuming the MA is similar in structure and demand)
I get the feeling a good portion of my class are not native speakers, so they would require more time.
Depending on what you want to put into it, you could do all the readings, more than necessary and spend 30 hours a week. Or you could do the bare minimum, scrape by with 1 hour per week. So just doing the standard modules with a paper at the end, up until now it's been fine.
If your program requires a thesis at the end, i can't speak on how that would be as i'm not there yet.. but the whole purpose of Distance Education (part time) is to make it do-able for ppl working full time.
So, if you were smart enough to get through university, and you can write a decent reserach paper, you'll have nothing to worry about.
Private vs Public school - 100 percent public. Way way way way way way way more free time. i work 9-230 then sit around for 2 hours 'prepping', which leaves plenty of free time for whatever (note current time of this post) |
