Yeah, but those that like to brag about their salaries usually cite their best month ever as if it is their average monthly. |
It would be possible if the guy was somehow a "famous" teacher. If he was american and somehow managed to get a rep for SAT prep, he could possibly pull 100/hour with small groups or more.
5 hours of that, 5 days a week would give him 10k/month. |
Got a link for proof of that? |

That 100 x 5 x 5 x 4 is 10k/month?
I think it was covered in 3rd grade, maybe 2nd.
SAT prep has come up in discussion previously here and many other places. If someone has the rep they can command that much. There are people that can talk themselves into regular privates for 70k or more an hour. A reputation and SAT prep is worth a lot of money. 3 kid class, each paying 35/hour for an effective teacher isn't a stretch at all. |

also remember reading something a while ago about this English teacher who was found dead at a construction site. According to the cops, he had died of an insulin overdose, but his family claimed he wasn't diabetic, so he wouldn't have injected insulin. Anybody remember this story? True or false?
True. The guy existed. I met him at a bachelor party of a mutual friend a couple of years before it happened, never saw him again but I reecognized his name and photo when the news hit the papers. |

I recall hearing this story but also a variation that guy's death was a "hit" organised by his hogwan owner as payback for some kind of "wrongdoing." Any truth to this? |
I remember that guy as well. They say he badmouthed the hagwon to all the parents. The hagwon owner lost the bulk of his business, that's the reason for the revenge. |

Congrats on waking up an early 2003 post which had a last comment in 2005. On the first page and after only 1 year someone mentioned the post being old.
I say it's that a Korean man cries 3 times during his life. Actually, only once not counting the times at birth and when his mother dies. Oh, and that Korean men are afraid of the water and roller coasters. |

I don't really need you to buy it, it doesn't make it any less true. It's funny how the world doesn't revolve around the things you believe and don't believe.

up to 80k/hour for SAT prep for unknowns. Through an agency, guess how much a "famous" teacher could command pulling in people on their own without someone skimming off the top. |

Yeah you're right. I went back in time to last may just so I could have a link to show you. If you're going to troll, at least put a little effort in to it. |

Who is trolling? I find your posts enlightening and very informative. It's great that you go to the lengths that you do to be a source of knowledge for all. High five! |

You're not going to find too many ads for jobs paying 100 million a year, but they certainly do exist, mainly in the form of SAT and AP teaching jobs. Here is a blog post about these jobs:
http://seoulistic.com/living-in-korea/where-to-find-the-highest-paying-teaching-jobs-in-korea/
To give an example of a high-paying academy, here is a link to a job ad for Chase Academy. Note, this only lists the starting pay of 50,000 won an hour:
http://koreajobfinder.com/jobs/chase-academy-is-looking-for-a-debate-teacher-to-teach-students-from-gr-59/
And, of course, this topic has been discussed on Dave's before. Here are a couple threads about it:
http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?p=2845926
http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?p=2091781
In short, it is rare for teachers to earn 10 million won a month, but it is absolutely possible if you have the right skills, abilities, and work ethic. |

Ha ha, he is the British geonmonromin. 29 years old and his parents are bailing him out because he couldn't turn up sober to his first paid TEFL job. |

What can I say, Edward? Talking about money is my topic of choice. It's even safe to say that I have no other interests whatsoever. |
