A friend of mine used to work for the Wall Street Institute in Seoul. She had nothing but good things to say about them. I believe that they have a branch in Daegu. |

MoonKhang, although with the Korean student age demographic change (low birthrate) many schools are cutting teachers--the times they are a changin' |

The problem is OP you are asking a "How Long is a Piece of Strong?" Question. Can we get some specifics of what kind of hagwon you are looking for. A chain, simple mom and pop place, kindy, adult, afternoon. What are you expectations concerning pay, students, work? It has been years since I did Daegu. Problem is it can vary for each person, plus timing, some school just may not be hiring or disappeared. The best gauges are to read the contract and talk to present/past teachers of school.
LIKE = The McDonald's of Hagwons for Daegu. Okay school, but not the best deal, but more likely to be done by the book. Like most chain schools.
YALE = About 3 or 4 schools through out the city. When I left it was consider a pretty good hagwon. Pretty well planned. Parents clamoring to get in. But like any place over time it can start to suck. Do not know?
WIN = Worked for and well, like LIKE. Not the best, but not the worst. If push came to shove - I would take if no better option was available.
If you want the Daegu area. I would ask if anybody can recommend a Daegu specific recruiter. |

Yale School: Siji should be same boss as other Yale schools in Daegu.
I have taught in Korea, China and Taiwan.
Bosses, husband and wife. Were friendly and kind. Quite liked them.
Korean staff were the same. Loved them.
Most foreign staff were good:)
Ian manager was nice guy.
I finished around 2008, I think, and worked at the Siji school.
This hagwon focused more on exams than my other schools.
Students were fantastic.
Any problem students would be spoken to by the Director. If they continued causing problems they were asked to leave.
At that time, for me, the only issue was the curriculum. Wasn't as organised or up-to-date as is should have been. Teachers decided which book to teach which can be good but wasn't always.
Every 3 months classes were swapped, so you, on occasion, got a class with a crap book often outdated and not communicative in nature, without a teaching manual or workbooks, etc. PREPARATION TIME, UP, UP , UP.
If this has changed and they have a well planned curriculum with good level separation and using books such as English in Mind, which have a lot of support material, teacher's manual, workbook etc. It may be the best school in Daegu.
So definitely recommend them. You do work and have to prepare, and if you still can choose your own book. Just remember to choose something with support material, and all should go well.
Remember to bring your big personality and away you go.
There is also a great Hapkido dojang round the corner. The Instructor was a really nice guy. I can say I miss my time there, not because Siji it a great place but because I had a great connection with the people I met there. I still have Korean friends that I keep in touch with from that period.
I loved my time in Korea so much I'm planning to go back. |

Yeah, how long is a piece of string...I worked for 3 hagwons in Daegu, 2 were good to great. I just expect them to do what they promise and I will do what I sign up to. The name on the door actually has little bearing. My 3rd hagwon was my friend who went into business, and they were a terrible boss. Oops!
I was in Daegu last weekend, love that place. |

Surprised, there website is still online -- yaleedu.net. When they close?
I always called it Yale Foreign Language Institute. Found the videos on their site call it that but the website uses Yale Language School. |
