Long story short... because of a huge, glaring language miscommunication (or downright lie), I have changed my mind about a school I signed a contract with and began working at only yesterday.

I am usually not so flakey. I'm in a rush and don't feel like justifying this... it really was completely their fault, to the extent that they are very apologetic and told me I was welcome to find a new job... BUT I already applied for my visa on Monday!

They said they would help me out with canceling it and would call immigration for me, etc. Does anyone have any experience with this?

The lady at immigration said I would be given a visa issuance # in one or two weeks (from this past Monday, Feb. 3). So I'm wondering how many days can pass before we can stop the process and pick up all my documents, so that I can apply for an E-2 visa with ANOTHER school.

Make sense? I'd really appreciate some feedback from anyone who knows about this, or better still, anyone with recent experience.

Thanks!

Rock and a hard place.

Ask 20 kimmi officers and you'll get at least 10 different answers.

If your school goes guns blazing for you, i'm sure you could.

But I've got a feeling what they say and what they'll do are two very different things!

It takes 90 days for a visa issuance number to expire. That will give you time to get new documents. Don't expect immigration to return your documents.

I don't think that there is a time limit for cancelling the application. It just depends on whether or not they've put it through or not. Best not to keep waiting.

What is the nature of the lie the school fed you? Depending on your situation, you might get more (or less) sympathy from immigration if you need to transfer your new visa to another employer.

...but it takes a year for an E2 to expire.

He'll need a letter of release.

But it only takes a few minutes to cancel the visa if he's already in Korea.
