My friend and I were talking about how convoluted contracts can get, especially with hagwons. But we weren't sure about this: What if you sign a contract, then, before transferring your visa or anything else, change your mind about the job? What are the repercussions? |

Other than annoying the school admin and probably also the recruiter they used, there would be no repercussions. You are legally permitted to END the contract (you're not technically breaking the contract because it's within your rights to terminate it whenever you want). The only problems would occur if you had already submitted the transfer application at immigration. |

Yeah. And so I wouldn't need a letter of release from them either, right?
I'm asking because as we look for an apartment for me to move into, I'm wondering if they might try to lowball me on the key money they offered -- they always phrased it vaguely. So I want to be mentally ready to say "go stuff yourself" and walk away. |
