Exactly. That's why it's so frustrating for us whites to be hit with the Eastern propaganda.

Wait...what?
Why shouldn't he?
That is the precise intent of the video

Laughing You are so great Cosmic Hum.

I am only half way through reading this thread, but so far it's a humdinger! I really agreed with Newbie's take on page 2:

Here's what bugs me about it:

When you see Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Brittney, Miley Madonna, Rhiana, etc doing their thing it's not that big a deal because they seem to genuinely be that kind of a girl.

But with so many of these kpop bands it seems forced on them. You see them on those other "star" shows and they're shy little kids barely brave enough to talk in more than a whisper.

If I had the sense that they were truly sexed up, confident, and somewhat in control (as their American counterparts) I wouldn't mind. But that doesn't seem to be the case at all. I think if it were up to them, they'd all be a little more Tiffany/Debbie Gibson and a lot less Miley Cyrus.

If this stuff were actually SEXY, then maybe the discussion would be moot. But as someone said as well, real sexy and provocative (pornographic? meh my jury's out on that argument, because I'm sure dudes have used this Kpop for sexual gratification plenty...and that's the intent...to gratify men, to please men...it's a the sad truth about video these days imo) music videos are to be seen in other countries like Spain, US, Brazil....this stuff is NOT SEXY because these girls are NOT aroused themselves to any degree. Their movements are to please the male viewer, and that's it.

And World Traveler, you're just being mean!

Kpop. Barf. When Koreans copy technology, the result can be great. But you can't copy sexy. That's why it's sad, laughable and OTT pathetic to behold.

Do you mean like actually rubbing one out? I think that's going a little far there....(but that's just me, maybe middle school boys get their jollies to the stuff due to hormonal imbalances).

Is that a prerequisite for sexiness? Also, how could we know they aren't aroused?

What is sexy and what is not, is culturally relative. But what is funny is when they try to copy certain aspects of sexiness from western videos, which doesn't always work for them. Examples: twerking, pole-dancing, every dance move Rihanna has ever done...

I think the attempt at sexiness is actually the least offensive thing about K-pop; the shameless copying and fake the funk madness on the other hand...

You're right Mix1.

What is sexy? That is a great question, and a great discussion topic. But I have to get onto work in an hour so...

An easier question: are they any redeeming qualities to Kpop?

My answer is no. None. Well, unless they compel someone to exercise who needs some exercise. That's all I can come up with.

It's pop music, why are looking for redeeming qualities? What are the redeeming qualities of Britney Spears or the Backstreet Boys? What are the redeeming qualities of rap music?

K-pop is music geared towards kids and teenagers, no different from what Britney Spears was doing years ago in the US. If you're looking for any redeeming qualities you're looking too hard.
