In Korea, I found myself with a job offer all of a sudden, but I needed more transcripts. I ordered them from my university, and my family couriered them to me. They arrived promptly, but it's clear someone (they did a real hack job) along the way sliced them open and inspected them. i.e. They cut one end off every envelope (took them 2 or 3 tries on a couple of them) and pulled them out. When you think 'Sealed Transcript', you do not think of what I received.
I'm wondering about a few things:
a) Is there a specific reason this would have happened? It hasn't happened in the past when I requested or sent transcripts to Korea. Is there a knack to having it NOT happen? Because if I am somehow able to get new ones before I lose this offer [unrealistic...] I don't want it to happen again.
(My current theory is someone saw my mother's well-meaning-but-perhaps-unfortunate post-it attached to them that says 'Please do not open for inspection as transcripts must remain sealed' and it provoked some "NO ONE TELLS ME WHAT TO DO?!" response.)
b) Does this happen often? I mean technically, the seal says valid if seal intact, but somehow I don't see that flying. Is there any chance they'd still be accepted?
Thanks for any input. |

If they are opened they are not sealed transcripts. You will have to order more and have them sent. Have the registrar send them by directly by FEDEX. You can do this over the university registrar's website. Simply pay for the FEDEX however the payment needs to be done.
Tell the school what happened and see if they will except the transcripts in Lieu of sending sealed official transcripts. However if its for EPIK or GEPIK they have deadlines, so get the sealed transcripts.

One thing is for certain, somebody living in your mother's household (or visiting) cannot be trusted. I am assuming you know who is in your household or possibly who visits with members of your household. Contact your mother and tell her what happened and see if she has an idea of who did it, because they'll do something like that again. |

Hehe, no no, I meant someone in the course of transit. I.e. Customs. Actually now that I look a little closer, I notice that what I thought was just a sticker is resealing the larger package where it was opened. And sticker says US Customs. So that narrows it down XP

Well that's the thing. It was sent FEDEX the first time. Albeit via my home, just since I wanted to make sure it was addressed properly, and my family knows the drill for a Korean address. So if it went by FEDEX last time, what's to stop it happening again?
EDIT: I just got off the phone with FEDEX and they said, since their hub is in Memphis, all mail will go through there, and there's no way to guarantee things won't be opened. In fact at one point she kind of suggested everything would be opened, full stop. What are we, on a watch list or something? Frustrating.
I guess the next step will be to just have the university send it directly as you said, and hope they don't eff up the address. They've been dumbasses about stuff like that in the past though. Fingers crossed... |

Send the transcripts to your job showing that U.S customs opened them. that is absolutely appalling. The school should accept them under those conditions. |

And yet, they won't. Because that is exactly what you would be expecting them to do. |
