|
|
Hello all,
I'm wondering if you could help me in this regard, I've been placed in Daegu through EPIK and am preparing to come over. Coming from South Africa, the working environment tends to be very strict when it comes to hair length/style.
I was wondering whether this too is the case in South Korea?
To give an idea, I've uploaded this image (not me):
http://tinypic.com/r/16kt7nt/8
That's about the length of hair I'm talking about, as my hair is very similar,
I'm a 23 year old male; relatively long fringe, hair over ears, short at the back.
From what I've seen it seems this length of hair is nothing out of the ordinary particularly in Korea & Japan, I may be very wrong however. More so, I have no idea whether this would be acceptable as a teacher.
Your input would be appreciated!
Thanks
P.S my apologies if there are similar threads, I searched about briefly but couldn't find anything relevant. |

If your hair is inappropriate they will simple tell you to cut it. No biggie. The one in the picture is fine though. |

Yeah, but not to worry, schools always have an assortment of wigs for that very reason. |

Multicolored, I usually try to match mine with my face paint and red foam nose. |

Me too, but for some reason, it gets pulled off my head and then it comes out that I'm not a real clown which upsets the parents and I'm told by the staff that I'm boring. |

Actually, I have seen many native teachers here with long hair. I knew one guy who had a white Jamacian pimp look or drug dealer going on. He had long hair and wore a woolen cap all the time. Koreans are held to certain standards, natives not as much. But, also know that older Koreans won't take you seriously and might think you're unprofessional. If you're a great teacher and good with kids, in the end, it's won't matter. But, if you're not so hot in the classroom, then, the complaints will follow.
Basically, at first, many Koreans won't take you seriously with that look and might even feel a type of prejudice towards you. But, as I said, if you work hard, have good classes, and are friendly, then, they'll get over it and you'll be fine. |
