Hey all, I'm currently living in Korea and doing a hagwon job for the second time in as many years. I'm starting to think I've had enough of the system but still want to stay in the country. I'm looking at getting on to the after school program if possible but I'm not really sure where to start looking.

I'm living in Daegu and this is where I want to stay if I do manage to get on the program as well. My current contract finishes at the end of June so I have a while to wait anyway but I'm trying to look early to make sure I can actually get something. Should I be waiting longer before I start to look? Of course, knowing where to look or how to get information would be really helpful too.

Thanks.

I work at a Daegu after school, most of the programs here hire for march. I believe that's when their contract with the public schools start.

Also, it is nearly impossible to find anything good for Daegu on craiglist,
use the facebook groups like in Daegu, Daegu English Teachers, etc.

After school positions normally hire for a March or September start, just like public schools. Finding one starting in June maybe unlikely.

After school roles aren't much of a trade up vs. Hagwons. Yes normally better hours and pay, but the classes are big and level can be low. Also vacation time is no better. Public school roles are still better on average IMO.

Depends, some after-school programs are very similar to EPIK-style contracts, 18 days vacation, 9 to 5, etc. My province has some jobs like this though they're all being cut. Crying or Very sad

On the job ads here I have seen some which were more like 10 vacation days a year, or gave you like a month of unpaid time off.

IMO working 1-5 and getting the same pay as the guy working 9-5 is a much better deal. The 10 extra vacation days don't really make up for the extra 20 hours/week
