I always thought that few if any young kids (elementary level) tuned in to watch the gag concert. However, I was recently shocked to find that many 4th graders (7-8 y.o.) that I've asked say enthusiastically that they "...must watch the gag concert" with (others without) their parents.

I don't think it in my place to say what parents should do with their kids, but IMO the content of this gag concert is wholly inappropriate at (most) times for kids their age. And, I've often heard the kids habitually doing things that they say they saw on it.

If you teach elementary school, can you please let me know if many of your students are also tuning in? Are 4th graders normally watching this?

Is this normal TV-ing for kids that young here?

I would put forth that kids who say they are watching such things are not telling the truth to an extent

Its been my experience that such concerts are "popular"..so when kids see adults laughing, many will often laugh too, or put out a fake laugh just to kind of fit in with the adults in the room laughing.

Much of the content of such things are bits that kids are likely to not understand (at least fully) anyway...that, when coupled with kids who are "in the room" when its on, but busy playing phone games or otherwise any other activity other than actually focusing on the show, in their minds often leads to "I watch gag concerts"

I had one of my seven year old students repeating stuff she had watched off it much to the amusement of her peers...

plenty of young kids watch this show. In any given kindergarten class that I've taught at least half seem familiar with a joke/image/piece of music from well known skits on the show. Entire classes would break out chanting if anyone said "감사힙니다" last year.

Be thankful kids are spending time with parents. Such times are so rare these days.

I haven't watched it lately since it has really gone downhill this past year. What content in the show do you deem inappropriate for kids? Most sketches I have seen don't show anything bad that kids couldn't see easily in America or most western countries.

i actually think gag concert is better suited for children besides the sexual stuff. korean humour is so sophomoric and childish that i'm amazed that grown adults can watch it. it really does fit the mentality that a lot of korean people have though.

Hee-Haw was taking in context as Country Bofoonery, but the music was second to none. Roy Clark is soooo underrated, as well as Jerry Reids numerous appearances, but I digress.

Its full of people doing the same jokes over and over, and kids can follow it. It fits the conformity thing here to a t. Low-brow? Well, come on. Korea is full of backwoods dullards, just like the US and everywhere. Just because they study in English and Math hagwons doesnt mean theu are smarter, its the riguer de jour.

The US has the Kardashians and stuff like that for shut your brain off entertainement, Korea has this, and Dramas, and alot of them.

I wonder f any parents oppose Gag shows?

One thing I noticed is that a lot of props are used, which would be fine if there was a funny concept behind it all. On the bus TV with no sound, I understand what they are joking about without knowing the content of their dialogue because the punch line is always some ridiculous visual using those props. It's as if everything they said before that was just drivel.
