I have a question about making back payments to the national health care system. I know if you owe back payments and leave the country and return on a new visa you can avoid making the payments. However I'm also hearing if you leave the country and return on the same visa they'll start collecting from the entry date stamped into your passport. Does anyone know if this is true? |

If you leave and return on a new visa BEFORE you are assessed for back payments then you are in the clear.
If you leave and return AFTER back payments are assessed they will collect anyway. You are stuck with the bill and even on a new visa your ARC number remains the same.

Thanks for responding so quick. I am aware of that. I was wondering if I leave before payments are assessed and then return on the same visa will they only assess payments starting from the new entry date stamped in my passport or will they still assess payments from my original entry date. I don't think this is the case but I heard a rumor it was true and am trying to verify. |

My guess is you would need to show a contract for both periods if there is a significant gap. |

ASSUMING that back payments have not yet been assessed:
a) IF you return on the SAME visa then they can assess back payments from the original date of entry into Korea.
b) IF you return on a NEW visa then the clock starts with the entry date on the new visa.

OK makes sense thanks. I have one more question. If I were to make back payments would I be reembursed for all covered medical expenses I paid for out of pocket while I wasn't covered. In other words the coverage would be retroactive from my first day in Korea wouldn't it? |
