I do. I don't think it's as effective as teaching in person. I think there are some other threads on this unless they have been deleted.

My colleague did it while he was finishing a double masters and figures it's just a sweatshop and not much better than flipping burgers once you pay all the taxes (nice run-on sentence, eh?).

But the same guy is keeping his French and Spanish up with teachers on the net.

Depends what your circumstances are I suppose. I'm working out of an office in Seoul and have a standard hagwon type contract with the same pay and benefits.

I will have to say it is relaxing and I love not having to deal with the screaming minions everyday. I expect to be teaching for a while though so I would like to feel that I'm developing as a teacher and I don't feel that way right now.

I worked in the same place as Zed and agree with him. Very laid back and no real stress apart from the constant tech-problems. Idiotic parents were the main problem, where the mother repeats what you say before the kid can and messes it up.

Me: I like chocolate
Mother: I luookeee chicolateee
Kid: Rin Holooonoid Chipolmonkey

Obviously the managers were too spineless to tell the mothers where to go o I used to sit there in silence until the mother rang the conpany to find out what was wrong..then normally the manager would tell the non English speaking mother to leave.
The late hours were the best part meaning you could drink til dawn and be ok. How are the amount of classes now Zed? I remember having 2 and 3 hour breaks.

There are only 2 foreign teachers here in the office now and 2 that teach remotely. I don't have the breaks that you did by the sounds of it but still Monday and Tuesday are sparse. Wednesday to Friday is usually the full set of classes. If they would do something to improve the curriculum/set-up here I'm sure things would be more effective, but, as you know, the management is deaf to anything the teachers might say.

I wonder how the remote teachers deal with tech problems. We have a technician here in the office. Do they get paid in full if they can't fix their problem? Fortunately, with the technician here, that isn't considered to be my problem. It's one of my fears about setting myself up in Bangkok (or somewhere) to do it.

I really like the idea of remote teaching in Thailand or Philippines.

I suppose I should have done it here in Spain.. but my Summer is going to be so messed up schedule-wise.. they need too much consistency for me at this time.

Maybe when wifi becomes the norm it will be possible to teach remotely..get a worldwide cellphone, a wifi compatible laptop, a wifi area and hey presto, you can teach kids in Korea from the beach in Koh Samet!

Our former employer offered the opportunity to me after I finished the contract last month.. but I figured it would be better if I devote my time to this graduate degree for the time being.. complete a long-term goal Ive had for myself.

But believe me.. many times I cant help but think how sweet that would be to be remote teaching in southeast Asia right now!!

I may ask again at the end of this year after Ive completed all of my coursework. Well see.. tempting!! Not sure if the offer will still stand at that place or not though.. well see.. I think it probably would..
