You can't really fault them for being proud. Most people are proud of their heritage. Koreans are no different.

Again, pop music is not Korean. Rap is not Korean. Hip-pop is not Korean. The fashion choices of the "artists" is not Korean. Synchronized dancing is not Korean. The bands have (with very minor exceptions) names that are not Korean. The name of the "genre" (K-pop) is not even Korean.

Their pride in K-pop is sadly, and somewhat pathetically, misplaced.

There's plenty of other Korean things for them to take pride it. Traditional Korean music, for example. Why not fuse that with Western pop music and create a new sound? When I was in Israel / Palestine last year I heard their pop music in shops, bars and so on. It fused Western pop with traditional Middle Eastern / Arab / Jewish music and it was a unique sound. K-pop on the other hand is just a bunch of Koreans singing and dancing Korean copies of Western pop music. It's another example of Korea's tendency to copy things from the West, adjust it ever so slightly, and call it Korean. Surely a country which boasts a 5000 year culture can add something to the mix before applying the label "Korea" to it.

They need to stop blind copying and start innovating.

Why? They're doing pretty well with what they're producing at the moment. I don't think teenagers in Thailand, China, Vietnam etc... would buy any more of their product if it was blended with traditional Korean music/culture. Do you? They're basically buying the stuff they liked before only with Asian faces.

Has anyone noticed kpop is becoming increasingly sexual lately? (During the milk scene, I was Shocked)

Too bad, because the song itself is really good.

For their mini-album promotions, Stellar has launched the 'Oppa, I'll do whatever you want me to' gimmick.

Through the group's official Facebook page, they are trying to increase the number of 'likes' and 'shares' by allowing visitors to the site to vote for what they want the girls to do. Choices range from making cute facial expressions to showing off their pouty lips, to revealing sexy dance moves.

Before the Wednesday's album release, the group's teaser images were revealed in a similar fashion as blurred pictures were made clearer piece by piece depending on the number of 'likes' they got.

Whether fans approve of Stellar's new concept and latest release or not, one thing is definitely for sure - they are receiving a lot of attention.

On YouTube the video has been viewed nearly one million times in the first 24-hours and the release of "Marionette" also reportedly saw server crashes on both the group's official site and their agency, Top Class Entertainment's

I don't follow Kpop, but I'm curious: has anyone in Kpop done Miley Cyrus 'twerking', yet? Laughing

Yes.

Born in '90, 90, 91, 92, 95, 96, 96.

Two are 17, and one is 18. So young (minors, according to Korean law). It's sad to see them twerking. (I'm surprised their parents want them to be in this group/allow it.)

I liked the song, thanks.

As for the minors thing, I meet too many runaway minors at my roach motel of a goshiwon. I treat them adults. Cool

Nice one! You got me there. Razz

In fact there is a 11PM curfew for visiting 'guests' or persons other than the tenant co-habiting but violations are, let's say, rampant. The owner (he's built like a middle linebacker) evicts them quite often.
