My personal favorite, however, was a Canadian newspaper(the paper of record, actually) which published a feature a few years back analyzing Chinese foreign policy in terms of some board game(maybe the one Koreans call 오목?) that is popular up there. |
Probably 바둑, wasn't it? |

I remember that article. I think it also blamed Japan's WWII failures on viewing things in terms of 'Go' rather than chess. Of course this ignored Chinese/Japanese chess variants. |

Possibly. It was a while back, and I really just skimmed the article. Just a quick scan was cringe-worthy enough. |

| Orientalism is BS. If you read Said, read the books he is critiquing. He cherry picks stuff out of context to make them look like dicks. The western authors he was criticizing were old middle eastern hands with genuine expertise about middle eastern history. |
This is a very tangential critique.
So are Russians international chess-players or not? Do you have something to say about Russian foreign policy? |
Think of this:
i) USA spends 50 billion on "democracy" in Ukraine (from Nudelman's mouth)
ii) USA (and to lesser extent EU) spend more overthrowing a properly elected government, in the hope that the next gov will join EU and become degenerate debt-slaves.
iii) Coup works
iv) Ukraine divides in half, with the Eastern portion joining Russia.
v) Russia has expanded westward at no cost. If defacto or dejure, Russia
absorbs the most wealthy, developed regions with the best land for farming and pits for mining. Russia has secured her ports and the ethnic Russian areas. She takes back the Crimea at basically no cost while the EU inherits a region where actual bonafide fascists are a legitimate force and billions in aid are required to keep from falling apart further.
Checkmate?
I don't know if the above is what the Russians planned. If it was planned then America looks like a stupid gorilla again. |
