hello,

My contract is coming to an end, and I wish to take advantage of the airfare reimbursement and go home for 2 weeks, but the catch is I must leave within 10 days to receive the money. I want to switch to D10 before I leave, but some say it takes 1 month for that to process.

I'm wondering if there's anybody who has switched from E2 to D10 within 10 days? How do people go around this?

If you go home for only two weeks your E-2 will still be active when you come back (It ends a month after your contract ends, or should anyway). You can switch to a D-10 when you come back if you need it.

Yea this makes more sense. Just tell immi you're returning and do the D10 transfer when you get back.

At any rate, it takes about 10 business days to do. Last time I did it, they told me it would take about 2-3 weeks, but it was actually processed within a couple of days.

I thought granting of the D-10 is that day. Did they change the rules? I know that at times people need to wait for a new ARC to be issued, but that people had the D-10. So they used thinks like receipts and certificates to show immigration at the airport your validity sans CARD.

I know some people get the D-10 quickly and immigration just updates the card. Maybe if you have an older card you will need to wait. If you have a new one maybe you get updated.

You are confusing things. The E2 visa is typically given for 13 months. So person works 12 months and has an extra month to wrap things up. Thorough legally it is two weeks from last day.

Once again you are confusing things. People are asking about how long it takes for immigration to grant a D-10. I am saying it takes that day. But more time might be needed for the ARC to be updated.

The same for a D-10 to E-2 transfer should take that day.

Did anyone figure this out for sure?

Can I get my D-10 the same day that I apply?

Can I leave on an E2 and then return and apply for a D10 as long as I have not gone one month after my contract end or the expiration date on my arc?

Still a bit up in the air. Recently discussed it on waygook.org.

I still say the D-10 is given that day. If the ARC if it is taken for a new one to be made then things take time. You will have a D-10 visa but no proof of it which makes travelling hard. That is unless you get a receipt and "Certificate of Alien Registration". Having those can help during the limbo time.

I recieved my D10 21 days after applying. You status is changed though whenever immigration processes your application, which may be days or weeks after you apply.

not sure what happens at the airport though when customs ask to see your ARC.

Did you receive your D-10 or did you get your card in 21 days? The D-10 is just a visa status. The card is not the visa it is a document showing status.

I picked up the card 21 days later. Exactly how soon it took for my actual status to change i don't remember, i have since handed back my d10 card and changed back to an E2.

It probably took longer with me because I had to have a whole new card printed, due to having a change of address. Maybe the process is quicker for those who don't..
