|
|
I remember a few expats on Korean TV back in the mid-1990s, when I first came to Korea.
There was Bruno Bruni, an Italian-German guy who was on TV and commercials quite a bit. The expats all hated him, and I heard from sources that he'd go to Korean nightclubs with booking and try to get women by saying, "Hey, I'm Bruno Bruni, yada yada yada," with little success.
I also remember a guy named Jonathan Hilt, who later married and added his wife's surname to his, a la Jonathan Hilt-Park. He was a GMAT prep tutor who appeared frequently on EBS and quite frankly, he was a dweeb.
More recently, the German girl Vera who was on "Chat with Beauties" seems to have moved back to Germany and calls herself an author and expert on Korea.
Anyone else? |

I dunno but there is some Aussie (fat) $%^& that is frequently on TV here.
I saw him doing one show last week where he was doing Korean military service.
This almost made me like him.
But no, my sympathy meter took another blow, when my Korean drinking buddy told me that the Aussie guys father ended up having a sex change when he was a kid, and then it all clicked! |

They don't seem to like good looking/cool Western men on TV over here. The foreign women are usually pretty but the males all seem to be fairly dweebish. The guys previously mentioned plus the big nosed guy in the kids TV shows Michael Aaronson, Simon out of Simon and Martina and I've seen a couple of real dorky types on those 'I'm married to a Korean' type programmes. Maybe it's only those kind of guys who get good enough at Korean |

Sam something.
I heard his dad was gay, not transgender?
Anyway, i've noticed him on a lot of advertising things and like you said a bunch of those army bootcamp style shows.
He must be doing alright for himself. His wife is quite cute. |

Good. I don't know how anyone could have their sausage sliced in half, folded inside out and then stuck back up the hole! |

I don't know many, but I do know that whenever a waygook gets any type of success or big popularity in Korea, the waygooks don't hide their hate for them. I always wonder why they hate or dislike them so much to the point of absurdity. Jealousy? Do you think they are "selling out"? Please explain it to me.
Examples:
Sam Hammington, Simon and Martina |

No. They act undignified. This impacts me indirectly through the way others regard me and behave around me. |

I agree. They typically play the clown for cheap laughs, acceptance, etc. Maybe they are clowns in real life--fat Sam is a comedian of some sort--but more than likely they're sell-outs who play into Korean stereotypes.
On the other hand, how about Guus Hiddink?
And, speaking of clowns, Dennis Rodman's back in the U.S. |

I'm afraid I don't have much respect for anyone who appears in reality TV programmes, or other forms of media that dumb down entertainment. In any country. Should I have? Overweight Sam Hammington also took money to push donuts (one of the unhealthiest foods in the world) onto kids, dressed in a santa claus outfit. Should I be respecting that too? |

They want to be famous, so they do what they gotta do. Not any different from people like Will Ferrell who does crazy antics on talk shows. |

this guy is truly awful. one of my friends tells me about his facebook posts from time to time and they make me want to vomit. i recall one being something along the lines of him not being able to see the latest iron man movie because his korean girlfriend didn't want to see it. THAT is why i don't respect these terrible little mouthbreathers who somehow get famous.
plus i see him around my neighborhood a lot which is even more annoying. |

So what disgusted you more? The fact that he wanted to see the latest ironman film or that his girlfriend put the kibosh on it? Personally I don't think the second part is particularly noteworthy, there are lots of guys under their GF's/wife's thumbs to that extent. |

Meh, he has been on the record quite a few times saying that if it wasn't for his ability to speak Korean, and be white, he wouldn't have much of a career in comedy.
Western humor != Korean humor |

For a few shekels they tell Koreans that Korea is #1 and perfect in every way, and show that foreigners are just clowns. |
