I've been shadowed by Koreans twice. Both times when I turned around they suddenly pretended to be closely studying the bushes or intensely looking at nothing on the ground. Really odd.

One was undoubtedly an AES member. In a park, in the center of Seoul. Kitted out like some sort of private investigator, with a notebook and camera. When I stopped and turned about, he stopped and pretended to be interested in the wall of the toilet block. Even taking photos of the empty wall. After a while he realized I was simply taking a stroll and got bored and disappeared. What a nutjob.

The other was in a rural area- some guy who appeared to never have seen a foreigner and couldn't get over his curiosity. When I stopped and looked over to him, he suddenly pretended to be studying the nearest bush, staring into it.

Bizarre oddballs.

But it was simply an adjossi acting outside of his "designated" gender. Back in 2007, I was walking through Jongno with a friend, looking at used electronics and tools and such, when my friend taps my shoulder and tells me to "look."

Right between us walks an adjossi, pretty strong and stocky looking, but wearing a high tight skirt, and white netted top which was cut short around the waist, thus exposing his belly button. His face was what caught me. Eye liner was dark blue, covering both eyes like Heath Ledger when he played the joker, and lipstick was more like a red paint brush was slapped across his mouth. His hair was pinned up in pink berets. He disappeared into an alleyway where other "normal" ajossis were walking.

I thought he was simply walking to a drag bar, but something tells me that this was the way he normally dressed, so it wasn't so weird after all.
