Hi folks,

I'm currently putting together my application for both EPIK and GEPIK for the Fall 2104 intake. I'm really hoping to get a PS job in Seoul, but as this is my first time teaching and competing in a job market where there are increasingly less jobs, I know my chances are slim.

I was wondering if any current/past GEPIK teachers have any insight on good locations within the Gyeonggi province. I'm interested in living in a relatively large, metropolitan location, if not Seoul. Recruiters are trying to sell me on the fact that you are still close to Seoul and can easily take a subway or bus to the big city whenever you want, however, I also know the subways don't service that late.

Any input or advice about GEPIK locations? Thank you in advanced!

Focus on the job and not on the party. It'll make for a much better year.

Subway or bus access to the central Seoul night spots is often better from the satellite cities (in terms of comfort and time spent) than the the commute across Seoul for those who actually live in Seoul.

Seongnam (Bundang-gu) is nice as is most of central/north or East Suwon.

Subways only shut for about 4-5 hours per night - some bus lines only shut down for a couple hours.

ttompatz you're absolutely right! That's why I'm set on getting a public school contract. Thus far, most of the personal insight/blogs I've been following online have come from EPIK teachers in Seoul, so I'm happy to hear from anyone who's familiar or knowledgeable about the satellite cities.

Thanks for the perspective!

Bucheon or somewhere close would be best.

Bucheon is big enough so you dont have to go anywhere and it is really close to Seoul as well as Incheon.

Plus at night you can get a taxi from Hongdae to Bucheon from as little as 20,000.

Good to see GEPIK positions are available and TEFLers are able to cherry pick the best locations. Very Happy

LOL, it's cute how people think they can still get positions close to Seoul and there are no cutbacks at all!

If I hadn't applied so late, I would have tried for Goyang. Seems like a great spot, and one I don't hear a lot about.

Good luck.
