I've reached this issue where the public school programs need a copy of the actual degree, and I won't be earning mine until June 26th, and my registrar has just told me it takes 6-8 weeks for the diploma to come in the mail. If I want to start for the Fall term, it would come too late. Has anyone had this issue? Is there anything you can say to your registrar to get the degree faster? Of course it will show up on my transcripts, and I can get a statement from my dean claiming I graduated, but for the EPIK, SMOE, and GEPIK programs they are insisting I need a copy of the diploma.

See you in the spring if your uni can't speed up the process of getting you the actual parchment.

It's not easy, but it can be done. I was in the same boat for this last intake. I graduated in the second week of December. I had already passed my EPIK interview in October. At that time I started working on getting my diploma expedited.

"Sorry, there's no way to expedite your diploma."

"No, we can't expedite your diploma."

"It's impossible to expedite your diploma."

"We can't expedite your diploma but we can do this. Will this work for you?"

"If that won't work for you then there's nothing we can do. It's logistically impossible to expedite your diploma."

I ended up speaking to the graduation coordinator, assistant registrar, associate dean, some other office, ombudsman, provost's secretary, and then finally the ombuds again. I got the final answer that they wouldn't expedite my diploma. WOULD NOT. Anyway, I e-mailed the ombudsman with a sob story (true) that would happen if I didn't get my diploma expedited. He called me 10 minutes later saying that he didn't realize it was that important. He said he spoke with his buddy who was the Vice President of Enrollment or something and he agreed to have it done. I had my diploma one week after I graduated. I also know someone who got their diploma expedited for this spring intake.

Long story short, be persistent, let them know the seriousness of the situation (if it is that serious for you) and you can probably make it happen. It will take some time and effort.

Trust me, this is absolutely vital that I make it to Korea.
Thanks so much for the advice. Oddly, I hadn't even thought of going to the ombuds.
One recruiter told me that hagwons will accept formal recognition from the university that I graduated over a diploma so I was considering just doing that.
But, if I can make the diploma come faster I will definitely bug as many people as I can.
