I talked to Rever ages ago and I recall he told me that something about all the politics that went into doing that show made him stop. I also had a kyopo pal who went for an interview at Arirang, and he told me it was miserable looking in there.

I didnt see for myself, but I dont imagine it being a great deal actually. YYMV

Revere is running 10 Magazine and - I am guessing - involved with organizing restaurant reviews for it. I was a bystander when he came in to a place to make arrangements. I thought he was haughty about the thing but it ain't my restaurant so whatever. Maybe the reviews are good and thorough for all I know. More power to him.

Thanks for that transcript, Cap'n. I am sure some folks want fire and brimstone for a counter-argument, but I felt like his statements were more than sufficient. Besides, some foreign dude ranting his flipping head off is just going to get cut from the broadcast, so what's the point of throwing a hissy fit?

I wonder if the woman I sometimes see in shops in Gyeongnidan is Lisa Kelley. Looks like her, sounds a bit like her, but I never was quite sure.

Dunno, but I wish they'd take that bloody Italian woman off TV. She has the most obnoxious voice in the history of voices. She does have some pretty 1337 Korean skills though.

Yes, someone who just goes off is going to be kicked off tv. But there are ways to be inclusive and present positives without alienating viewers. It takes verbal skill and tact but it can be done.

This months Groove magazine has a cover declaring four "Expat Superstars" are featured. I don't know any of them. Laughing

I did read about one of them as I sat on my toilet a couple of months ago. It was a story about how he had reached the peaks of celebrity in Korea, and now was leaving to conquer elsewhere. It appears he's back and included in this months magazine.
I'm not a fan of the stories in Groove magazine but it sure saves me money on toilet paper.

I'm gonna have to get that magazine. I've just about run out of my neighbor's mail that was left in my mailbox.

I'm sort of wondering how expat celebs will do here. Many times, Koreans pick strange or simply useless people to represent foreigners on TV and movies (e.g., Lee Cham aka Han-woo, Sam Hammington, Robert Holley). It's like how "Gangnam Style" became the world's intro to Korea, and many Koreans about that were like, "Geez."

The South African's Korean is far more annoying than the Italian's (Cristina). I know a little of Pinnacle but nothing about the other two guys in the Groove article.

Another person I'm following a bit is Colleen Park, the half-Korean who was a judge on "Korea's Got Talent." She seems to be making a name for herself in non-English Korean TV, and she's over 45 or so.

ROFL at the end with the echoing, "DON'T EVER... LOOK DOWN... ON KOREA... AGAIN."
Gotta love that false bravado propaganda.

They wouldn't dare claim that a native English speaker (certainly not American), would be a terrible shot. That's why they used the foreigners they did (in case, anybody cried foul). That's not the funny part. The funny part is that the Korean, military or otherwise, would be a perfect shot.

Arirang is a virus that refuses to die. Most staff get paid really low wages, and the government, which funds the station, keeps cutting the budget but demands that the staff do more. Lots of times, you see the production that fit into Arirang's budget.

I couldn't understand a word that Korean guy was saying - except something about soccer, Yuna Kim and cars. They still don't get the Yuna Kim thing do they? Nobody outside of Korea knows or cares about her. If you were boasting about how great your country was to some foreigners in real life and started going on about some figure skater, people would just laugh at you. And population-wise Korea is not a small country. If they want to talk about soccer, compare South Korea to Spain, which has a smaller population, and is slightly better at football. And my God his girlfriend was annoying

You are forgetting that all white people are American.

The foreigners spoke English despite not being from an English speaking country because they wanted to make them out to be yanks.

No, the funny part is they're using a replica of a U.S. made M4 carbine instead of their own *ahem* stuff.
