Same person as this thread - http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=230169&highlight=

The person contacted me personally by pm around the time of that thread to ask for money, someone that I met YEARS ago once.

Sad to hear she still hasnt gotten things together. I cant even believe that the police at the very least cant do something about their ID cards being held by this bad uncle. Police may not be able to make him pay money, but they can certainly do something about the documents and card.

"I am still homeless. During this time my boyfriends uncle purchased us a house, had my student ids made, my bank account made, has taken care of my boyfriend's mothers funeral and her assets along with his grandma who also passed away(many things were inherited by my boyfriend but his uncle also has these in his possession) However, my boyfriend's ex contacted his uncle and was saying all of these lies about me, which he suddenly believes. He forces us into these situations and avoids meeting us at all costs. He knows well how we have been living and is actually quite well off himself but he can't afford to send us 30 dollars for a room for the night. He has been holding our IDs, house, car, everything hostage. If it were simple to just go home we would definitely do that, but the house is in his uncle's name. We can not even enter the building (the building name is Haeundae Zenith; if you do a search you can see how the security desk is set up)."

So her boyfriend's uncle purchased her a house but won't let her move in and that's why she's homeless. Odd that someone who has been here and studied the language for over four years has to depend on her boyfriend's uncle to get a student ID and bank account....

Also her boyfriend's uncle "purchased them a house" in the most expensive building in Busan.

So in korea its possible to get the authorities to do your own personal bidding?

I mean you just give them a call and they go along with whatever you want them to do? Coooool

No, it doesn't sound like she was ever deported or fined despite what her ex-boyfriend reported to the authorities.

She posted a link to her facebook page on waygook. There are pictures on facebook of her teaching at a hagwon as far back as 2007, pictures of her hanging out with Korean friends, and pictures of Korean dishes. Probably a lifer.....

I am pretty fascinated by people like this and how delusional they must be to think that people will believe their stories. I actually think that they sometimes believe the stories themselves. There are a lot of really easy ways that she could remedy her situation, but she seems to have an excuse for everything.

Things to ponder:

She seems to have been living in the same place for at least the last 4 years, but she has no friends who she could crash with. And it would seem that she has never heard of couch surfing, and that he Korean boyfriend also has no contact with anyone at all, including friends and family, other than a spiteful ex and an evil uncle who seems to be a bad guy from a disney movie.

She has had 35,000 won a night to pay for a motel, but it would be much cheaper to stay at a goshiwon or hasuk jip (many of which have staple foods like rice and kimchi included in the price). Or even to rent an apartment! 35,000 x 30 = 1,050,000. I pay less than that for rent, and bills in central Seoul! I'm sure there are some expats looking to rent out a room or similar for just a few hundred thousand a month!

She claims to need to have both "money for coffee" and also "a registration card" to teach privates.....

She is a student. How does she pay for school/books etc?

She hasn't eaten "in 5 days", but has run up a tab of 35,000 at the PC room??? A triangle kimbap is 800 won.

I do hope we get some updates.

As I recall, when I met her years ago, she was only 19 or 20 at the time. We exchanged some messages when she made a post somewhere about finding the location of a KLPT exam taking place at my university, and since i was taking the same exam..offered to guide her to the building

I dont know if she is a scammer though. She obviously made some bad choices in life, but I think we all did when we were younger. That said however, I find it hard to believe that after all of this time, the situation is still as bad as she claims.

If you are reading this girl, here is a way you get get some help. Use that pc room and webcam to make some youtube videos. Speak Korean, tell your story, and post those all over some Korean websites/facebook pages. II am willing to bet that within days you will have money rolling in from Korean people, and in months will likely be on some tv show telling your story and people gushing/fawning/ashamed that a young WHITE FEMALE who loved Korea and her Korean boyfriend so much to leave her family to struggle with him is having such a hard time her in Korea due to as you claim, vindictive locals.

Literally, you would be a star!

I don't get the impression that she's a scammer. I get the impression that she's probably someone who has been supporting herself with illegal work for the past several years while studying Korean. Work has not always been steady and she doesn't get all the benefits that legal teachers get such as a free apartment. So things can be pretty rough at times. She's had some bad luck with boyfriends too.

Some of the exaggerations in her story just scream crazy.

Her ex was out to destroy her.

Her boyfriend's uncle is the head prosecutor.

He bought them a house in Zenith, the newest, biggest, most expensive building in Busan.

She hasn't eaten in 5 days.

She's not just broke, she has 300 won and a cardigan.

Also her boyfriend is a local but can't go to the gov't office to get a new ID.

Sure if I saw her in a subway station I'd probably give her a tenner, just because I believe its the right thing to help those with less.

There is certainly some truth to her tale.. but beyond that its hard to say.

Exploitative women do exist, and you will only ever hear their side of the story. I used to know one who funded her backpack travels by getting her rotating list of boyfriends to shoplift for her, dumping each one after they would get caught, then finding a new sap to parasitize. There are some pretty awful women out there that on the surface look like angels.

Unfortunately some young women do tend to choose guys with the worst possible personalities (kicking all the nice guys to the kerb in the process ) and then expect others to pick up the pieces when their relationships predictably go south.

This is all symptomatic of the crumbling esl industry here.

Expect cases like this to increase.

More competition for jobs so less available for teachers without degrees?

I thought she looked pretty good in some of her facebook photos. It sounds like she was finally able to pay the PC bang bill and eat some ramyeon. Some updates posted on waygook:

"My friend from Canada doesn't have any money to send me and since it was the weekend the only thing she could do was book us a motel room. Since no one was able to lend us any money, we had her book two rooms. My boyfriend took the hotel vouchers to the motel and said that one of them was booked by mistake. We had owed more than 40 dollars to the pc room at this time, but thankfully we got one of the hotel vouchers refunded in cash and used that to get out of the pc room and get some ramyun. We are in a motel now that has a pc in the room."

"We just called the haeundaegu office and since my boyfriend didnt report his card missing he has to pay a small fine to get his card reissued so thats a nogo. However we had applied for a loan before and apparently we can get part of that tomorrow afternoon. We also asked them to see if his uncle had used his account, and he had withdrawn 30 grand in january. So we called his uncle to ask what that was and suddenly he changed to "lets go to get investigated" to "lets meet in front of the police station". so I'm guessing he's scared since if you do negotiations in korea before getting investigated there is no record of the report. So at least we have a chance to get our stuff back tomorrow."

So is this head prosecutor in Busan worried about being prosecuted himself? I wonder if that was 30 grand in won or dollars.
