Hi, I got a new passport when I went back to my home country. I entered Korea on new passport. Do I need to report Mapo Office about my new passport number or was it recorded automatically when I entered Korea? If I am late, will I face any penalty? |

Can we report it at Gu Office or we need to go all the way to Mapo Office. Online application is not working. I have tries that several times.
Any idea about the amount of penalty? Is it huge? |

I know if you have an F visa you can update at the Gu office but not sure about E visas. If you update at immigration just don't volunteer information about when you changed the passport. Just say last week if they ask. I was one year late changing mine btw |

Hi, Your answer seems interesting But how is it possible? I mean the passport issuance date is always mentioned on a passport. Are they too dumb to even see that? |

Report it to immigration. Your local Gu office doesn't care. They only use your weigookin number. But you must update it promptly to immigration as you may be penalized if you don't. Also, update it with your bank if you send money home each month. (Though eventually, immigration's database seems to update everything else.) |

It has the date (validity) on the passport when it was updated. The agent probably overlooked it. But, he could have easily penalized you if he had noticed.
I changed mine this year and went to immigration about a week or so later and updated the info. (I did it in Korea for a Canadian passport.) |

I reported mine late and did not have to pay a penalty. He didn't even seem to notice it was late.

I know you can register address changes at your gu office on an F visa, so it would make sense that you could register a change in passport number as well. I'm not certain that that's the case, but if so, the people at the gu office, as opposed to immigration, most likely won't know or care about the deadline for registering the change there. An immigration officer can obviously penalize you if he/she notices the change, so it's best not to mention it, as john110375 said. It may come out eventually either way, but you can still hope for the best. Let us know what you do and how it works out. |

Fox, out of curiosity, where did you register your passport number change? |

In fact, my experiences with the Donghae immigration office have been almost 100% positive. I suspect their low work load makes them a lot more reasonable. |

Thanks. You're probably right as the officers in Seoul always look overworked and on edge. |
