Two people I know personally have had their thyroids removed within the last couple of years. Okay there are different reasons why a thyroid may need to be removed, but the most common is cancer, and I know at least one of those two was for cancer.

Do you know of anyone else who's had their thyroid out recentlyish, in Seoul or anywhere else?

I don't. But, you may want to visit a doctor or go to a special clinic. Better a trained doctor than hearsay on Dave's. I've heard Koreans mention Samsung Hospital in Seoul is one of the best hospitals here for surgeries. But ask around and see what you hear. You might have to go to a local doctor first for a first meeting.

I think the implication of the topic creator is the effects of Fukushima on people in Korea.

On topic, a friend's wife had thyroid cancer and had it removed. That's the only case I have heard of, and it runs in the wife's family.

That's about right.
That's interesting. I've heard it said that there's more "radiation" from China than there is from Fukushima.
But yeah, even though I agree with the previous poster who said it's worth checking with an expert about recent rates, I'm just looking for a quick and easy anecdotal indication/ show of hands.
