What's frightening and fascinating about it? The girls had surgery and are recuperating. That's exactly what I would expect someone to look like after surgery.
If it was a video showing you how they reshape someone's jawline, which I've seen, then I would understand you being fascinated and/or frightened. But a couple of photos of women recovering from surgery isn't frightening or fascinating. In fact it's pretty boring.

It’s been a little over a year since I finished this project. These days it’s a totally different scene. It’s become way more extreme,” says Yeo.

That's possibly the frightening part, depending on your POV.

I disagree with her idea that this is all about looking more western. I think it's just what it means for many Koreans to look attractive (and to be successful) in Korea in 2013.

This is garbage. The story says Koreans are trying to look more western. That's bullshit. They are trying to look more like anime characters, because these characters draw on the common ideals of beauty the world over. Big eyes, small mouth, healthy long hair, symmetrical features, young looking face, large breast, and a slim waist have always been considered beautiful for as long back as my great grandmother. For the story to claim that the US is infecting the world with ideals of beauty is idiotic. The Chinese were wrapping their daughters feet, to ensure the feet would remain as small as possible, for years.

The only thing America has done is introduced plastic surgery techniques. Korea has taken it to a whole new level, due to the obsessive trait prevalent among many Koreans.

What I find most worrying about this article is the photographer. She has chosen as her subjects: women with eating disorders, women just out of surgery, and “You don’t realize their face is Asian,” says Yeo. “This is my new project.”
I think this highlights an obsession with body image within the photographer. Is she Korean by any chance?

Yeah, I'm confused as to how these are supposed to be shocking. Really, they just look like ppl after surgery.

Exactly. Should we photograph fat Canadians after gastric bypass surgery and act like it's unnatural? Nothing shocking- and there shouldn't be- about people recovering from surgery for reasons unknown.
