Hello, I'm a Korean American guy who's going to Korea at the end of this month. I'm going because my mom is going to see her family and relatives so I might as well. Meanwhile, I'm taking advantage of this trip and since I'll be in Korea where they are known to have best plastic surgeons in the world, as far as Asians are concerned, I'm getting rhinoplasty surgery because I never liked how my nose looked like. It's been my complex from since I was teenager. I thought it would go away as I get older but I just can't change my mind around it no matter how much I tried. In the states, it costs about 10k, (wow), but in Korea, it's about 3.5k to 4k. Has anyone done this or ever considered anything like this done? It doesn't have to be plastic surgery it could be cosmetic surgery like getting zits and freckles removed like razor skin cleaning.

As a white dude, I've never done the nose. But, it's a complex some Asian folks have. Make sure they have a lot of experience and have a good reputation. Koreans on the ground can probably help you with that. Some clinics here are cheap and have bad results. Others charge more and have better results. Best and most expensive are in Apgujeong. Stay away from clinics that do all kinds of surgery. Go to ones that do only one type of surgery that you are looking for. I did a hair transplant a few years back and that's my 2 cents worth. (Cause it sucks losing your hair in your 20's.)

I've never had work done, but have numerous friends who have. In some cases, it turned out well; in other cases, it did not. Two or three of my friends were unhappy with how their nose jobs turned out in particular, and to be honest, I could understand why they felt that way. It's a procedure that seems to be really hit or miss.

As such, if it were me, I would be very careful when choosing a surgeon. Korea has many great plastic surgeons, but that doesn't mean that all, or even most, of the surgeons here are good at what they do. Do a lot of research and try to find someone with an excellent reputation who specializes in the type of surgery you want and who also understands your needs, especially since standards of beauty differ between here and the U.S.

I should add that I have a couple of friends who work for plastic surgery clinics and be aware that some (many?) of the ads you see with Before and After shots are Photoshopped. These places are businesses first, medical care providers second.

With that said, if you do things right, you can have great results. Just move slowly, avoid the butchers, and know what you want.

Another thing to consider is aftercare. Is there a plastic surgeon in your home country who will do follow-up checks? If the results aren't to your satisfaction, how will you proceed?

dude, if you're korean american and can read korean,

just do some searches on naver or daum

and check the forums i guess

i am chinese-canadian and if i am EVER to move to china, i would totally get a nose job.

i'm not an ugly guy, considered good looking by most. but why not look like a damn Greek Adonis?

what in particular is bad about your nose anyway? for me, it's my lack of a high nose ridge. i kinda got the hook on the nose which isn't too BAD in korea. i've only had one 3rd grade kid make fun of it.

but in China, along with my single eyelids, i am considered a villager haha

hurts =(

that's why i like korea more!

cuz having small eyes is somehow popular for men (at least it was in 2008)

some girls straight up say they won't date anything other than a tall guy with single eyelids (Which is literally me to a T)

anyway, enough about me LOL

why don't you look at some Korean male idols and find a nose that you really like and ask around to see if the clinic is able to make your nose look like that

i would attach a front facing picture of yourself and a profile picture

the nose needs to work in conjunction with the shape of your head and stuff like that. so pick a few actors/models and see what you like

i don't personally feel any moral objections to plastic surgery. it's kind of like a permanent haircut lol

my problem with rhinoplasty however is that after about 5-10 years, your nose looks kinda weird and fake. the nostrils get messed up

that might be because of the way people put foundation on their faces but the surgery doesn't last forever.

some parts of your nose will look like a young 20 year old's and the rest of your face will look 40 lol

but by then, hopefully you would have found yourself a pretty wife and have kids so it hopefully wouldn't matter =P

Nope, I'm not. I've just been here a while and have a lot of them as friends.

Shocked That would be like a unicorn cutting its horn off! Don't do it!

Personally I think freckles are lovely feature on anyone, and Asians with freckles are extra cute for their rarity.

The few occasions when I've met an Asian with freckles they've hated them though...baffles me. Is it a social thing? Do you get made fun of for it?

Honestly not a sob story because i feel better now but i use to get bullied and rocks thrown at me. the things is im really pale with freckles.. but i get them from my mother so they are on my arms and shoulders too. and the back of my calfs. but i really just hate the sight of them. >.<

But thank you for your comment. I appreciate some people do find them a charm and unique but im afraid to say i don't.

You were bullied BECAUSE you have freckles? Where did you grow up?
I haven't really heard of that except apropos of making fun of red-heads, which where I grew up only really became a thing after that South Park episode (the idiocy of that particular social phenomenon is difficult to comprehend).

I myself have loads of freckles (though the ones on my face have faded a bit in adulthood) and a nearly albino complexion, so I'm biased I suppose, but I'm a big fan of them. Aside from the aspect of perhaps being indicative of sun damage.

Anyway, all that is really neither here nor there, as obviously it's totally your prerogative. I do think it's unfortunate you came to "hate the sight of them" for whatever reason, especially because, if you have kids, that's a feature you might well pass on to them. Hopefully in that scenario you could learn to love them again.

And so the trend will continue...

The level of social stigma toward freckles astounds me.

I remember a student of mine a couple of years ago - 10 years old coming to class with his face red-raw from having repetitive laser treatment. His mum said they were ugly and forced the treatment on him. I honestly hadn't noticed them at all before hand.

And foreskins must be ugly too because teenage boys are still made to have theirs chopped off in Korea. Shocked
