Does anyone know any laws regarding dog poop and pee? There is a lady who lives near my apartment building that yelled at both me and my boyfriend (at different times of the day) while we were walking our dog. She pooped in the alley while the lady that yelled at us was walking to her house.

The dog almost never poops in the alley (which leads from a main road to our apartment building with a few houses along the way - a dead end). Yesterday was probably the 3rd time she did in the 2 months we have had her.

We ALWAYS pick up after her, so unless you see her go, you can't tell she did. As far as I know there is nothing illegal about the dog pooping in a public area as long as it is picked up.

Today she posted a note (in korean) on a wall in the alley. It roughly translated to "If you take care of your dog well, why do you let it poop in front of other peoples' houses? That is not allowed in Korean law."

I'm pretty sure this lady is full of it, but I don't know where to look up this kind of law. Any help would be great!

You're just supposed to pick it. Leaving it could result in a ticket, but I think we all know cops aren't going to do anything. She's just pissy about having a dog poop in front of her house. Keep doing it, it will drive her nuts.

Or she could have a bowl of water at the front of house for dogs to drink. Since dogs do not like to foul up sources of water they do not poop or pee where they drink. Compared to us humans who dump all sorts of refuse in rivers, they are smart in that regard. Laughing

I've had this same problem. I always pick up after my dog (while others obviously don't) and while my dog is going to the bathroom I've had people run out of their building and start screaming at me. I just calmly show them my baggies and smile.

A lot of Koreans seem to think it's strange to take your dog outside to go to the bathroom. I was talking to some Korean friends and when I told them I take my dog outside at least 3 times a day they were really shocked. They said "You know, you can get a pee pad and they can go to the bathroom in your house. It's much better." Talking to other friends later on they expressed the same idea.

That said as long as you clean up after your dog there should be no problem. Just ignore the sign and go about your life as usual!

If you are picking it up, it's perfectly legal. Ignore her. Or smear poop on the sign.

They let the dogs do their business out on the verandah.

I don't know about "much better," but it's much easier. They don't have to train the dog and take it out regularly. But for a population that seems extremely sensitive to smell, it strikes me as especially odd to have your dog peeing in the apartment.

Most Korean dog owners seem to just chain their dog outside indefinitely next to a growing mound of poop.
