If he'd need milk crates to reach the chalkboard, I don't think there's any way he'd get hired in South Korea. According to Asan Medical Center, I'm 184.5 cm, but at my previous school, I was the shortest foreign male teacher, and one of the teachers was nearly 7 feet tall! The very first question asked during interviews is usually about your height. In Korea, it's considered much more important than experience or work skills.

I do think he could get hired in China. At the school where I worked, they paid very well by Chinese standards. I was making 12,000 RMB per month, but they still had to hire Bosnians and Romanians just to fill the roster. I've heard of other schools, even universities, hiring Nigerians. The fact that he's a bona fide native English speaker could possibly make him gold for the right school, especially if he's a white guy. The Chinese stare a lot more than Koreans, even in big cities, but I think they'd be less likely to make fun of him to his face. Frankly, there's no way I'd personally want to put up with a whole year of ridicule the Koreans would heap on him.

The Vietnamese are really nice. I've only lived and worked in southern Vietnam. I've never been to northern Vietnam, but I hear the culture is a lot different up there. But in the south, they're definitely kind-hearted people. Also, they tend to be several inches shorter than Koreans, on the average, so the height differential would be less pronounced. He may need a motorbike to get around, though, which could potentially be difficult depending on his height. It's harder to get a job from outside of the country, however.

If he really wants to teach in Asia, I really think the best choice would be a private children's school in China. They actually pay a two or three times more than Chinese universities, the students would be smaller, and the schools can't be as choosey as Korean schools.

Good luck. I'm rooting for him.

Jongno, you're still using the word "midget" in 2014, so we may have different ideas about what constitutes ignorant behavior...

Your ideas about the millions to be made by dwarf actors are erroneous & seem to be based on a few rare success stories. On average, people with disabilities (dwarfism included) are likely to have lower incomes. Your thoughts on someone being honest with themselves about career trajectories that proved to be a poor fit for them may be well-intentioned, but they aren't really helpful. According to this thread, I should "suck it up" as well - grow out my hair, get breast augmentation, slap some lipstick on, & become a career waitress - nah, I'd rather not. Teaching overseas seems like a fun option, not the only one.

I haven't found much correlation between height (or race) & junk size. I've dated a 6'6" guy w/an average wang & a 5'7" guy w/a massive one. I've dated black guys w/small packages & Asian guys who were hung. My sample size has been relatively substantial. Dwarfism is a condition that differs from garden-variety shortness, regardless. There are one or two rare varieties (e.g. pituitary dwarfism) that affect genital development. Achondroplasia is the most common form, & it does not affect it in the slightest. All of this can be found out with some googling. Regardless, I don't see how *beep* size would factor into getting hired in Korea - which, if we're talking statistics, has the world's smallest penises on average.

Youre quoting a study that measured the flaccid length of Korean men vs studies where people self report erect lengths?

Well, it seems that you gave up all realistic attempts at a marriage and children. By the way, if a man talked about all the women he slept with in Korea, he would be labeled a *beep* and become rather undatable. You can deduce what you will, but its not a double standard.

You don't know a damn thing about my life or goals, other than the fact that I've seen at least several penises and want to save some money, and last time I checked this wasn't the family values forum. I couldn't be less interested in presenting myself as (or living as) a virtuous Christian woman, at any rate, so your insults are lost on me. You brought my boyfriend's genitals up when it had nothing to do with the discussion at hand. I merely pointed out the error of your assumptions, and you chose to resort to *beep*-shaming...unfortunate.

So you're doing a scientific study.

I once knew a girl who toasted her 100th guy with a bottle of bubbly.

Stay classy. Cool

This topic makes me want to eat these

I used to put more than one flavour into my mouth at a time to 'mix the flavour' - I guess that makes me the wh*re of the sweetie world. Twisted Evil

Guys can bring up *beep* size totally out of nowhere, talk about how "ugly" female teachers in Korea are, and chastise women who have slept with multiple men - but a woman dares to respond to them, and she's a troll.

Interesting logic.

I think I'm done wasting my time here. If anyone has any useful advice re: employment, can refrain from using insulting terms like "midget", & doesn't want to talk about genitals or sex, they can send me a private message.

1. People made helpful/insightful responses
2. You ignored them
3. You decided to respond to the ONE single part of the thread that was trolling you
4. You commenced to talk about your sexual promiscuity over the internet, with a troll.
5. Each post seemed more and more unbelievable

If i talked about boning many different women, i would assume that your opinion of me would not be as good as if i didnt.

You dont know how to get what you want it seems. What I asked about your partner is what americans ask women all the time. It was satire. Anyways it is undeniable that peni.s size questions is a central part of American culture, which was my point, not his actual size. Look, you replied to me because i was the only person who mentioned that aspect of american culture, which certainly vibed enough with you to reply only to me. Point proven.

I just dont understand why its an ignorant assumption.

Height and *beep* size is believed to be correlated. Some people say the same about race and *beep* size. So everyone who thinks *beep* size is correlated to height or race is ignorant?

Yes we have digressed... There are certainly aspects of American culture that I miss quite dearly.

My personal opinion is to tell him to suck it up and finish law school and represent midget actors in Hollywood. They make tons in acting movies. Im sure they need representation. But since he is disillusioned with law school now you have to teach english across the world? Give me a break, tell the fella to suck it up.[/quote]

Jongno to Ignorance or whatever you call yourself.
Lay off. For Good. You deserve to be banned for this kind of rubbish disguised as 'helping' or 'satire'.

Erinmack - ignore this kind of trolling ignoramus. I'm a bloke and the advice I offered previously is based on genuinely trying to give insight into the Korean (and Japanese) cultures with which I have more than an acquaintance.

What a few positive posters here are confused about is the difference between what Koreans (and Japanese) are allowed to be and do, and what outsiders are allowed to be and do. In a way dwarfism in Korea among Koreans is irrelevant as there are clear unspoken rules regarding the place of non Koreans.

We are not called 'waygugin' - outside people - for nothing. In Japan it's 'gaijin' - again outside people. Completely different standards apply irrespective of whether Korean or Japanese society is changing or not. I will be completely honest and say I don't hold much faith in the younger generations of both societies as they are becoming more nationalistic in a negative way. They (in the case of Koreans) are generally excessively concerned with appearance including height.

The fact that your partner would be rejected in Korea the minute he reveals his height to a recruiter says nothing good about Korean recruiters and Korean society. Don't let it get to you or your partner. In Japan competition for English jobs is higher than in Korea as there are far less jobs available.

Again - don't let it get to you. I have friends working there now and they say the situation is grim. With the collapse of the big chain schools their places have been filled by often cynical small school owners ready to exploit foreigners and offer less and less.

I advise you to think of China. Try to do it soon as China will be the next place to be flooded by job seekers in the English field. I can't help you personally as my teaching gig is one that most job seekers couldn't get because my cv is long and very experienced in university work and more than 5 countries' teaching experience.

But use the search engines on the net to find recruiters and join the China forum on the cafe. Best wishes to you and your partner.

Are you sure about that? I am experiencing a gout moment and limping around. Students come up to me now and ask if I have ever seen zombie movies and walk strange.

Coincidence? Rolling Eyes

If you are shorter than expected or exhibit some other trait different than the norm, then you might want to choose young kids or adults. The teenagers will notice, comment, and laugh. If you are not into that then avoid them.

Oooo! Fight! Fight! I'll sit here and watch with the popcorn.

Alright I'll throw in my two cents worth on this boring desk warming afternoon. A woman with some experience who knows what she's doing is hot. But, when she's done everyone on all the sports teams in high school, well, that's kind of a turnoff. There's good experience and then too much experience. But, in the west, you usually know who these girls are and can make a conscious decision to get involved or not. Some guys do and some don't. So, carry on, it's your life....
