I remember people posting years back asking how they could make big money in Korea teaching in a very short time.

Is there a question in there?

Yes, I'll rephrase it the way I read it years ago: how can I make big money in Korea teaching English in a really, really short time?

I know some might say it's not a stupid question but I remember the flames that this post soon attracted.

Where are the peanut butter cups?

What is it with people and peanut butter cups? First off, they aren't even that good. It's not a peanut butter cup. It's peanut flavored mash filler surrounded by 4th rate industrial chocolate. If you are going to carry on about candy, at least carry on about something good. Second, buck up. I dunno, something about hearing someone wail about peanut butter cups is just so...ugh

If you're going to rant about hard to find items, at least rant about worthwhile ones like cigars and scotch or whatnot. It's almost as bad as the people who go on and on about Doritos, all the while not realizing Doritos are just filth in a bag.

Was that sentence intended to be a grammar puzzle?

A woman in tourist information (employee - person who works there, the subject),

the other day (general time phrase, past tense, sticking to the rules of the thread),

asked (verb - past tense, regular)

The last bit may have been the confusing part, the question I was asked.
Something to this effect;

'Do you understand Korean place names when they are spoken? If not, I will write them down in English so that when you hear them, you will understand them better'. I explained 'Place names in Korea will sound the same in English or Korean, 'Gungnam' is 'Gungnam', so no thank you'.
(in case youre wondering if she thought I couldnt read Korean perhaps, we'd already cleared that up and as the map I was reading, was written in Hangeul).

Its a bit more long winded (boring) like that and has just wasted 5 minutes of my time.

I hope that helps anyway, if it does, it was worth it.

And yet, they're delicious. I think I'd actually like them less if they had real peanut butter inside. Sometimes an ostensibly low quality product can be strangely good. There's also one particular type of Hamburger Helper which I really like, and the old style McDonald's chicken nuggets which were all dark meat and gristle (and who knows what else?) were quite good, although I can't say I really like anything else they serve there.

"So i'm confused. Is the severance pay the same as pension (meaning they are both the same but just different saying?) I'm finishing up on a one year contract and will be looking for another position soon. I am planning to leave Korea but will return a couple days later to look for another position.

So does it mean we get pay the Severance from our employer (public school) and also another pay "pension" from the government?

So, we receive two payment or just one? Sound like the severance is also the pension? Confused"

You would think that information like this would be important to know before you took your contract...or... Maybe this person is just crazy rich, and few thousand dollars isn't important to them..... but, I think not.

Not on the board, so cheating, but...

This was actually my father, when he visited Korea, to one of the red-clad tourist-helpers in Insa-dong...
"How do I get a taxi?"

the person thought for a moment, then said
'Like this.' while leaning forward slightly, looking to the left, and waving their right arm out in front of them.

In fairness to my father, in the context of the discussion "...to go to the airport." was kind of implied. In fairness to the Korean tourism woman, he really should have been more specific.
