Hi all,

Got an empty apartment that needs furnishing. I'm based in Gangnam.

My immediate priority is to buy a mattress, duvet, bed sheets and covers. Otherwise I'll find my self sleeping on the floor in 2 nights time (Sunday night).

Anyone know stores where I can go to buy one.

gmarket. quick and cheap delivery directly to you, comfort of shopping in your skivvies, cheaper prices than anywhere else.

the cherry on the top of the cake is any large furniture you buy that needs to be assembled will be assembled for you, gratis.

Unfortunately I don't have a cash card as I only just got my Alien Card and need to go to the bank to get one.

Its quite a tricky situation. If I can get a mattress or at least something to sleep on, a pillow and duvet. at at least gives me some time to sort things out.

People are always selling beds on Craigslist, you could try there. Furniture stores here are very overpriced in comparison to the likes of Gmarket, for example, the tv unit I have was 100,000 more expensive in Emart than on Gmarket, and my bed double the price in a local furniture store.

Maybe you could get some sort of cheap sleeping mat, or even a couple of yoga mats (only a few thousand in Daiso) to do you for a couple of nights until you get a proper bed, rather than waste a lot of money.

Also, sometimes stores don't even have the item in stock, only display models, and you have to wait a few days for delivery anyhow.

Gmarket orders can be paid through bank transfer, so you can do it at the bank, or even give a friend/co-worker cash to do it for you if you have no account - they can lodge it straight into their account at the ATM and then transfer it immediately.

I ordered furniture from Gmarket on Monday,and they gave me until 24th to pay for it, although I paid the next day. Anything I've ever ordered comes within 2-5 days, and they assemble it and take away the packaging.

Go to Home Plus or E Mart and buy an air mattress. Check the back streets in the neighborhood. There are sure to be bedding and blanket shops.

This reminds me of 1994-98.

Koreans had a day once a month where they would leave their almost new appliances and furniture outside for pickup. They would upgrade to new stuff and throw out perfectly good and useable items. We furnished our house, and another three of our friend's apartments just by roaming decent neighborhoods and looking around.

Rinnani stovetop burners, A/Cs, sofas, tables, it was amazing. It was very rare to see actual junk that really should be thrown out.

We had found a set of triple dressers and an armoire, one of those black ones with the pearl inlay. There were three of us that day...we took turns carrying it down the street - only about a mile to go before we got it to the house...we were exhausted. Korean guy in a bongo truck stopped and had us load it up.

Random acts of kindness. He wouldn't take any money for the help.

HomePlus, EMart, Costco, any big box retail store will have what you want. Downside: It'll be expensive.

If you speak some Korean, there is a place I know that sells all of what you're looking for. It's a small mom-and-pops joint. Downside: You'll need to speak Korean to properly haggle for prices. Directions are simple enough: Starting from Nonhyeon Station (Dark Green, Line #7) Coming out of Exit 1, Take your 2nd right into the alleyway (turn when you see the bank), Now walk straight until you see a Plus Mart, Walk past that, past the Daiso, and you'll see those small mom-and-pops joints selling food and stuff. A few of those sell what you need.

Take a Korean speaking friend to get good prices.

have a friend who has an arc card to buy your items on gmarket and give them the cash. there is seriously no need to buy it elsewhere and get ripped off.
