How about calling it "I am Legend" and make it star Will Smith.

Fun fact...the original main character in I am Legend was supposed to be the model Aryan male. Blonde Hair, blue eyes, etc.

The difference is that there are plenty of white heroes in the media. Non-white heroes is pretty close to nill and mostly attributed to a few actors.

Meh, seems to me that the majority of heroes here in Korea are... Korean. Shocked

Steelrails, you do understand you do not get paid by the amount of words you plaster on the screen right? No need for story books.

I think Asians actually have it pretty good in Hollywood. The last time I saw Jackie Chan, he was the male lead in "The Spy Next Door." He had a beautiful white girlfriend, he was heroic, brilliant, tough, good with kids, great at his job, and just an all-around great guy.

That's a stark contrast to how whites are portrayed in Korean film. In Korean movies, the best white dudes can hope for is to be portrayed as men who gang up on a Korean woman in a nightclub, make her eat her own boogers, and call her a bitch. That's the best case scenario, the most flattering portrayal. At worst, they commit gang rape.

Thats actually reality.

There are tons of westerners on TV that speak Korean. However, that pales in comparison to the 15 million Asian Americans in America who are pretty much the most unrepresented American citizens in the US, along with Native Americans. Who happen to be from Asia.

I have been noticing an uptick of asians in hollywood films, either that or being shot in asia. Hollywood seems to be following the money.

Hopefully we white dudes will be better portrayed here as globalization continues. I hope...

Yes we know, the whole world is out to get the Asian.

Regarding films, "Hispanics are particularly under-represented considering how likely they are to go to movies — though Hispanics buy an estimated 26% of movie tickets, they have only 4.2% of speaking roles."

They are from Asia too right?

It's the music that has made "Frozen" such a big hit in Korea, not "White faces."

http://koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/culture/2014/02/135_151926.html

Quote:
The animated fantasy film Frozen has captured the hearts of many young mothers here in Korea,” So-yeon, a veteran voice actress, said in a recent interview with The Korea Times.

She noted that “Frozen” has become the highest grossing animated film and the second-highest grossing foreign film in Korea, drawing more than 10 million viewers here since its release on Jan. 16.

So-yeon plays Elsa, one of the characters of the hit film, in the Korean language dubbed version. She attributed much of its success to its neoteric plotline and musical-like elements.

“Many go to the theaters just for their children, but soon find themselves immersed in the film,” she said.

“Frozen” tells the story of a princess, Anna, who goes in search of her estranged sister, Elsa, whose spell has trapped the kingdom in eternal winter.

The film’s original song “Let It Go” has been the most downloaded tune on music charts including Melon and Mnet for the last two months, and is thought to have played a significant role in the film’s success on the local market.

Lesson for the author of the article- The Korean audience is too devoid of prejudice and the language of race issues to care. They just see good songs and a fun time.

Music can play a powerful role in promoting movies. There have been many movies where the music was better than the actual movie.

Saturday Night Fever

Grease

Fame

Flashdance

Purple Rain

Moulin Rouge

and so on.

This thread is insane - are people really trying to defend "white privilege" ? Y'all lost your minds! As for Sesmae, clearly you have very little knowledge on the subject so you really should stop posting until you have read a book or 2 by authors who are PoC and can get at least a grasp on what white privilege is.

Let's all be honest and accept the fact that Hollywood's been white washes movies since the beginning and there are very few PoC (people of colour) represented in the US in proportion to the population.

e.g

Apache - Native American played by Burt Lancaster
The Conqueror - Genghis Khan played by John Wayne
Cleopatra - Cleopatra played by Elizabeth Taylor
Othello - Othello played by Laurence Olivier
Stuck - Black women in real life called Chante Jawan Mallard played by Mena Suvari
30 Days of Night - Inuit played by Josh Hartnett
21 - Asian American lead played by Jim Sturgess

Even look at The LOTR movies, an Asian woman was told she couldn't get the part a a hobbit because she was too dark... and this is in a magical world with talking trees and trolls etc... or the Hunger Games when a lot of people were annoyed that their favourite characters in the book turned out to be black (e.g Rue).

The author's first problem is his projection of racial attitudes he holds onto others, especially women and children. Plus, his generalizations don't hold much water, especially in 2014. The author of the article doesn't understand the entertainment industry, and more specifically how movies are promoted and how they appeal to international audiences. He should study up on how Disney has made movies in the past and how the "Disney Princess" industry strongly appeals to women and girls all around the world.

They feature events like this.

The "big picture' is even bigger than the Korea times columnist could ever imagine.

You keep crapping your pants with your clothes on. You've only been on this board a short time but you've already made loads of mistakes. You're wrong about that video being "reality", you insulted a man with dwarfism while at the same time making strange comments about his *beep*, and you were talking about telling a middle school student to "sucky, sucky, long time".
The reality is there is something wrong in your head. You have some kind of victim mentality which makes you jump to conclusions and post horrible comments. The problem isn't TV, or the lack of Asians represented. The problem is you. and what's gone wrong in your head.

I'd say that Koreans haven't been infected with the kind of mentality halfwits like Jongro2Bucheon have. They don't expect to get special treatment just because they aren't white. I think the majority of minorities around the world just want a decent chance to get on in the world, and I agree with that. In the past rappers used to claim there would never be a black president. It's that kind of attitude that reinforces the victim mentality many people suffer from. Instead of complaining about things go out and make it happen for yourself, instead of looking for excuses why you won't succeed.

What about "Star Trek"? "Battlestar Glactica"? Don't just pick and choose to make a point.
