I have to agree. You guys might be right, but you sound too certain in your cynical predictions.

Call it being experienced. Being cynical in Korea is the best way to avoid getting continually burned. Sad but true.

Cynical view: Let's be honest here. The chance of it being "just a gift" with no strings attached is very low.
Or one step further, even if it IS a simple welcoming gesture, a big part of the motivation of doing it likely comes from trying to make Korea/Koreans look good in the eyes of the visitor.

Positive view: Anyway, enjoy the groceries! It's actually great they gave them out. It could be a sign of a decent work environment. You never know.

OP must be a young woman. It's a whole different world for them. I met one at orientation, way back when, who was telling everyone, like she was proud of it, that she had been offered money to do porn by someone on the street in Seoul. Also a Korean man who worked in her school's financial office wanted to take her away for a vacation, all expenses paid.

Years ago I knew a very good looking white woman in Seoul who taught English by day and was a high priced call girl by night. She paid off her student loans in 2 months.

Sounds plausible and reasonable...therefore the board's peanut gallery rote reponse will be: its a trick, he wants to buy you...and so on.

OP: buy your CT a small thank you gift.

Buying someone 75,000 won worth of groceries is a very considerate gesture. It's too considerate, especially by a man for a single woman.

Don't women usually refuse larger gifts from men because they feel indebted?

I have never met a woman who appeared to feel "indebted" by taking ( and taking and taking ). Do we have any real reason to believe that the OP is, in fact, female? Was it stated that the Korean teacher was male?

I would expect some requests for various assistance with matters of "English" in the future as my first thought.

I hope she informed the person making the request that such employment would be illegal not only for her because of her visa status, but also because making, distributing, and viewing pornography is illegal in the Republic of Korea.

It is most odd that this person, while presumably Korean, didn't know that Korea is a conservative country.

It was probably a line to have sex with no real porn career to follow bro! Pretend to be a scumbag porn maker in southern california and approach a bunch of bimbo looking blondes asking to tryout for your movie, you'd probably get some volunteers. Many would reject you too, but eventually you'd get some to go back to your fake studio. Isn't that how's it's done in Japan, except they really are porn producers? Japan, you so crazy!

Anyhew, don't know why anyone would do porn. Your image would forever be floating around on the internet coming back to haunt you. Kind of dumb if you ask me. What would your future husband or wife think or family members? How could you face them? To each their own I guess.

Ha ha ha. Can you imagine? A porn star wife. I'm going to the office to work an eight hour day while my wife's going to her job to do 10 guys that day. Then, at home, after work, you eat dinner together and ask about each other's day? After you get some sloppy twentieths. What a life. What about show and tell at school? "Hello Class, I am Jason's mom. My job is to $%^& all day long." Ha ha ha ha ha.....

Sounds like a good comedy show.....

Haha yeah thats like an alternative "Married with Children" where Al Bundy just shoots himself in the first episode after Peggy shoots a porn session with jefferson. And the shows over. Al shot himself, Everyone understands why.

There are plenty of women in America that do not want to marry a male porn star. Yet their stories are never told either. So the " double standard" continues? No...
