Hello, everyone. So I have started my teaching job in South Korea and I really enjoy it so far. My only trouble has been coming up with engaging activities for my students to do in the classroom. So far I have played variations of the game "hangman" and "pictionary" and they have been doing A LOT of drawing. I seriously need to step up my game if I'm going to keep their attention. Right now I am teaching them adjectives. Can anyone recommend any fun games or activities that teach descriptive words? Thanks a lot Smile

Thanks, matthagwon! I forgot all about mad libs! I used to really enjoy those when I was a kid. Perhaps my third graders will, too Smile

I do spelling bees and Jeopardy-style quizzes with my younger kids. Sometimes I have them write stories in smaller groups using their vocab words. A twist on that game inspired by Exquisite Corpse - First kids writes a sentence, second kid draws a picture illustrating that sentence, then folds the paper so only the picture is showing. Third kid has to continue the story, but they have to guess what the sentence is based on the picture. Then fourth kid draws a picture illustrating the third kid's sentence. And so on. You end up with some pretty funny stuff.

When I had smaller classes I used to play a vocab game modeled on Texas Hold 'Em, where every kid has two vocab cards in hand and then I put two vocab cards on the table. The way to win the game is to create the best sentence using as many words as possible (they have to use at least one of the cards they're holding). Before they make their sentences, they have to bet (I just used candy), and of course the person with the best sentence gets all the candy at the end. This only works with a small group though, maybe 5-6 students at most.

Wow, thank you so much faeriehazel! Those are some great suggestions! I especially like the sentence and illustration idea. Thanks again!
