Hello,

I lived in Korea for four years and left almost six years ago. I've been back a few times since, and plan on coming back this summer for a week or two, but from my understanding, a lot has changed since 2009 in terms of cell phone services, etc.

When I was there, I had a simple Samsung phone which did not have a sim card, it was fixed to some system on which only Korean phones and compatible phones could function.

I now live in Saudi Arabia, where I purchased a Samsung Galaxy with Duo Sim function. From my understanding, I can simply place a second sim card for any country in the other slot and it will work in that country.

Is it possible to simply pick up a temporary sim card at the airport in Incheon? Or at some Telecom place in Incheon/Seoul upon my arrival?

Any advice would be appreciated, as I am not so adept in cell phones, especially when in Korea.

All the best.

As long as your phone isn't carrier locked you can just walk into any SK Telecom store and ask for PPS service. They will charge you 9900₩ for the sim card and will load whatever amount you want on the phone. 20000₩ is the minimum to open the account from what I remember. Smile

I don’t know whether the other carriers do it or not but you can get a pre-paid SIM card from KT Olleh even as a tourist (with a passport, no ARC needed). http://expatblog.tistory.com/177
