I'm not sure why Koreans come here to Scandinavia in any case, all they do is hide at home and stick to themselves, they may as well just stay in Korea. |

Maybe they can't get a job back home except for flipping burgers at Lotteria? |

Ha, that or they want to live in a country that is totally opposite to theirs so they can say they still lived on ramyeon and never left the campus. What did Steelrails say again about Koreans being open-minded because they watch Yankee blockbusters? They're so damn open-minded they never leave their goddamn rooms. Which is cool, best for all involved and all that. |

I think the reason you are annoying to the point of enraging for atwood is that you seek out any slight against Korea, no matter how mild or even inadvertent, and you concede no criticism on Korea is valid. |
Wrong, I object to posts criticizing Korea written in a bigoted, offensive manner. I don't highlight every post in a critical thread, only those that contain offensive phrases.
Captain Corea, for example, criticizes Korea, but you can tell by his wording that he does not seek to demean the people here, nor views them as beneath him or existing to make his life happy. He goes after individuals and puts in qualifiers. He doesn't engage in sweeping condemnation of their culture and seems genuinely invested in the welfare of the country, and can see issues beyond just the microcosm of the foreigner life perspective.
What I don't do is take it personal and start insulting other posters by comparing them to Nazi war criminals, simply because they disagree with me. I don't seek them out by name.

The guy's name is Shin Dong Hyuk, he was born in a gulag and has since become a major voice in the NK defector scene. He even has a wikipedia page and has been interviewed on CNN.

The time machine bit is cute, but once the bowing had begun I bet the guy, armed with a smartphone of course instead of a sword, would fit right in. Sitting on the floor, grilling up some meat, swilling the soju after filling your boss's cup--he'd get it.

Yeah, I'm sure going from being a peasant serf in an agrarian economy to 21st century Korea would be easy as pie. And that's all people do here, just sit on the floor and swig soju.

So support you statements or shut up. |
You do the same.

atwood, drop the Nazi stuff, please. Grow up. I don't think Dave's is the kind of place where we want people calling each other names based on Nazi war criminals. I'm pretty sure that's a TOS violation. |

It is bigoted and offensive IN YOUR OPINION. There's a qualifier you never use. If you admire the way other posters post, why not emulate them?
I have supported my statements, including regarding Joseon man. Don't you think he'd fit right in on some audition show, singing like a swan, and he'd be a natural for the commercial with the girl singing arrirang, showing her she's not doing it right.
And Joseon woman? There are thousands of farmers down south who'd love to marry her and no doubt she'd fit right in on the farmer, laboring from dawn until dusk and then hustling inside to cook up the vittles.
You sure are thin-skinned for someone calling others racists, for someone twisting others' statements and consistently quoting them out of context, for someone who makes up statistics and LIES. Don't you have one of those leather trench coats that all the other Reich ministers have to act as a second skin?
Go run to the mods. Show us what you're really made of. But don't forget about the LIES. |

The only thing I can't understand is why atwood is constantly harping on steelrails' past jobs. Aren't both of you teachers now? You both ended up in the same career. |

Not quite. All teachers are not created equal.
If he wouldn't set himself up as judge and jury on all things racist and as an expert on whatever the topic at hand is, then I wouldn't feel the need to bring him a bit back to earth.
And if he wouldn't use this forum as a rough draft for his memoirs, I wouldn't know a thing about his past jobs. That's on him. |

All ten of them thought the time on their tickets was the boarding time instead of the time on their boarding passes. And these are foreign correspondents? |
No, the eldest probably made the mistake and the younger members (who were already too scared to wear sunglasses on their trip) were probably too afraid to point out the ineptitude of tnen elder dudes. |
This was my first impression as well. Someone must have noticed, but didn't feel he could point it out to the senior. Utterly retarded. There's also the likelihood that the senior knew the schedule but was just such an self-centered ajoshie *beep* that he felt empowered by keeping other people waiting. If so, it backfired on him and made him lose face in front of his juniors. That's why he's resorted to talk of "racism" - he needs to get his face back. There's also the possibility that these same ten chartacters have flown with Lufthansa before and have a reputation for such antics. This time the airline staff decided to send them a firm message.
Wouldn't be surprised if they'd also been censured for smoking in the plane bathroom. I've been on Korean Air and Asiana flights where an ajoshie will get up and go to the bathroom, only to return stinking of smoke. Nothing was ever done about it. They may have tried that on Lufthansa and got placed on a blacklist. Add to that the obnoxious way Koreans treat wait staff, how loud they are, and how generally inconsiderate of others they can be and a bigger picture emerges.
I'm sure the atmosphere on the flight, and the general comfort of other customers, was improved by the absense of these ten gentlemen. |

Our good friend over at E.H. is not exactly buying the Korean Herald's spin on the matter. http://www.expathell.com/ |

Why do you assume it's a bunch of guys? I've seen women act just as bad... Anyways, the flight was probably full of Koreans, considering it was Seoul bound. Most of the passengers weren't late... |

Thank goodness we have non-judgmental atwood, who starts every post with "I don't really know much about this topic, anyone have any insights?"
Dude atwood, can you like post on things without it being about me? |

I was answering a direct question.
But on the Internet you are what you post.
And your posts far too often consist of taking other posters' remarks out of context, of distortions of what others have written, of made-up "facts," of willful exaggerations, of positions that directly contradict your other posts, of over-generalizations, not to mention lots and lots and lots of pure hooey.
All of which makes YOU fair game, Herr G because YOU are the one posting. |

Then why do you initiate threads about topics you know will get attacked? That's not objecting to post, that fanning the flame.
If you think you ONLY object to post that are deliberately prejudice, then you have become hypersensitive and can't see the forest for the trees.
Your biggest problem is that you won't accept any generalizations. Using superlatives in general conversation requires a degree of understanding that 'all' doesn't mean 'all'. it's that common degree of unspoken latitude that allows for for concise conversation. |

I rarely initiate threads, the only recent one I did about Korea was prefaced with "This out to be good for a row".
Also, it's not just the "all" or "Koreans" its that its also followed up with statements like "peasants in suits" or "some culture" or "uncivilized".
And as for the "all" means "some", then why don't you just type "some". It's not like this is some sort of magic word! We didn't learn 'some' in college! We learned 'some' the same day as 'all' in school, and we learned how they were different too. You're talking like this is some sort of burdensome request, no this is basic English. Like on the level of pluralizing things with an 's' at the end! Again, as I keep on saying- Using 'some' THAT'S WHAT YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO DO!!!
If you're too lazy to write it with the written word, are we sure your mind is making the same distinctions?
And again "When I say 'all black people are uneducated and on welfare', I really just mean some, don't you know that?". That's what you're saying. |
